Pesmegra
Hi,
I'm possible applicant from Poland.
I have 7 years of experience in financial and SOx audits plus accounting. For 5 years I have worked in an Indian IT giant (will not give the name
) working my way from Accountant to Senior Project Lead in Audit Services. Since 2 years I'm working as Senior Auditor (Finance & Operations audits) in one of the industrial companies. The role is very independent - from planning the project releasing the audit report to the board. Coverage - Global (and when I mean Global it is Global - examples of coverage: Brazil, China, US, India, Australia, New Zealand etc.).
Education:
1) PhD in Economics - 2019 - Polish University
2) Master in Economics - Polish University,
3) Master in Management - Polish University,
4) Bachelor of Science (First class honours) - European Engineering Business Management - United Kingdom
I have recently started ACCA process.
As for the Polish market I have Chief Accountant qualification at Association of Accountants in Poland.
I'm planning to take GMAT (currently in the preparation phase) in the second part of December to be able to apply in round 2.
I plan to apply to:
1) HBS,
2) Kellog,
3) Said School of Business (Oxford).
Please kindly evaluate my profile. I will appreciate any comments/suggestions (as well to my school choice) etc.
Regards,
Pesmegra
Hi Pesmegra,
You certainly have an impressive academic profile and global professional leadership. There aren't many PhDs who apply to business schools. Without more information, such as your application strategy and what your short/long term career focuses are and why as well as a firm official GMAT score, it's harder to give feedback. Still, there are some things that pop out that I think an AdCom will notice and I thought feedback on those items might be helpful to you.
The first is your age/years of experience. If your 7 years of work experience don't overlap with your undergrad, masters & doctorate, then you are probably on the older side of the applicant pool for top U.S. schools (where admitted students typically have 4-5 years of work experience prior to MBA). You may be a better fit for a European school like INSEAD, which is equally excellent, and which would give you points (rather than likely detract points) for your years of work experience. Still, I think you could have a good shot at U.S. schools *IF* you pitch yourself and your aspirations the right way.
The second thing that stands out is IT for an Indian firm. There are *A LOT* of Indian men applying from IT, often from very prestigious posts. You will have a fierce competition there. However, I think the fact that you are a *Polish* person applying from IT will be a bit of a distinction.
You may also consider elevating your chances through a dual degree program, such as Wharton's Lauder Program (International Studies with Language Immersion) since you are clearly very interested/strong in academics. I believe that program has a Hindi track for which you could write a killer application essay.
The bottom line is that it's hard to give you advice on your application strategy and your odds without more information. The admissions game for internationals is something that we specialize in. If you'd like to have a free consultation with a top-tier MBA alum on our team to talk about what kind of admissions strategy may work for you, feel free to reach out:
