Well i am working in merchant navy and currently sailing at the rank of 4th engineer on oil tanker ships Basically my work includes looking after operation of the machineries in engine room on ship and troubleshooting the problems of machineries and to make sure that all the operations on ships are safe
I have done my b.tech in marine engineering from IMU kolkata and has an overall percentage of 72% and recently i gave my gmat and scored 625 and i am in this field from past 5 years and want to pursue MBA from some good B school as after being the part of the world trade for the past 5 years i want to deep dive into it and want to understand this whole buisness in depth.
So if someone can please guide me and help me with the option with this profile I'll be very thankful to you
Thanking you in advance
Thank you
Hi Samrat,
I have seen a few opportunities and challenges while working with applicants with your profile and I will base my advice on those:
1. You'll have to show how you took ownership and led through any operational challenges while sailing. It can sometimes be a challenge to show that you went over and beyond in this role - but figuring out those instances can go a long way in building a compelling application.
2. to complement the above point, you will need to build a strong resume that shows quantified achievements. How much costs did you save, what efficiency did you achieve, did you avert any disaster and save costs? Any other pointers showing impact on business will be equally valuable.
3. Sometimes merchant navy folks don't have post-college extra curricular activities. As you guys are ship worthy only for 6 months at a stretch, it will help showing that you pursued ECAs, hobbies, volunteering initiatives during your off-sail period.
your GMAT is average and depending upon which programs you plan to apply for, you may have to account for a retake.
