Hello everyone!
I’m planning to apply for European MBA programs starting in January 2026 (INSEAD, HEC, IE, IMD) and would love your feedback on my profile and chances.
Profile Overview:
- Demographics: European male, 28 years old
- Work Experience: 4 years in strategy consulting, currently a Senior Consultant at a Tier 2 firm (e.g., EY-Parthenon, Oliver Wyman, Kearney). Previously worked at two smaller consulting firms
- GMAT: 645
- Maybe important? My reference letters will be written by partners with leadership roles at the European level in the sector I want to pursue my career in (e.g., Consumer Europe Leader at Oliver Wyman). One holds an MBA from INSEAD, the other from HBS
- Academics: Bachelor’s and Master’s in Economics, both with top honors (29/30 average GPA)
- Extracurriculars: President of my country’s top junior enterprise (50 members, €100,000 annual revenue). Also competed at a semi-professional level in volleyball (I was paid to play, but I wasn’t really a professional)
Questions:
- How competitive am I for INSEAD, HEC, IE, and IMD with this profile?
- Should I retake the GMAT (645)?
- Are there other top programs in Europe starting in January 2026 that I should explore?
- I still need to start preparing my application (I have already identified my feedback providers). Am I late?
- With less than a month to send the application, what do you think is the best approach to contact the admission officers?
I’d appreciate any advice on how to strengthen my application and insights from those familiar with the process.
Thanks in advance!
Hi
monworth,
Your profile is strong, particularly given your work experience in strategy consulting. Your strong academic background, leadership experience, and international exposure further enhance your candidacy. However, a GMAT score of 645 might be a limiting factor for top-tier programs like INSEAD, HEC, and IMD.
To answer your questions:
How competitive am I for INSEAD, HEC, IE, and IMD with this profile?
Your profile is strong, particularly given your work experience in strategy consulting. However, reworking on your GMAT scores can significantly boost your chances.
Should I retake the GMAT (645)?
Given the high competition for top-tier programs, retaking the GMAT to achieve a score in the 700s is highly recommended.
Are there other top programs in Europe starting in January 2026 that I should explore?
While INSEAD, HEC, IE, and IMD are excellent choices, consider exploring other top-tier European programs such as London Business School, Cambridge Judge Business School, and Oxford Said Business School.
Am I late in starting my application process?
You're not too late to start your application process. However, given the competitive nature of these programs, it's crucial to stay organized and prioritize your application tasks.
How can I best contact the admissions officers?
While direct contact with admissions officers is generally not recommended, you can leverage other channels:
Attend Virtual Information Sessions: Participate in virtual information sessions hosted by your target schools to learn more about their programs and ask questions.
Email Communication: Use email to clarify specific questions or to follow up on your application status.
Networking: Connect with alumni and professionals in your target industry to gain insights and potential mentorship.
By focusing on a higher GMAT score, crafting strong essays, and leveraging your network, you can increase your chances of admission to top-tier MBA programs.
