Hello PSUTOPRIVATE,

For the past 3.5 years I have been working in COAL INDIA LIMITED as Assistant Manager (Electrical) and handling both electrical and mechanical aspects of mining (like erection of overhead line, installation of HT motors and pumps, etc). Before that I had worked for 1 year
in Mu Sigma company as data analyst. I have also given Engineering services exam interview thrice (although never made to final list). I am having one year gap after working in Mu sigma co. At present I am thinking of giving GMAT exam for executive MBA from FMS delhi.
My 10th = 93% and 12th = 93%. Did my B tech from HBTI kanpur ( UP state college)
My questions-
1) what is the GMAT score required for FMS delhi.
2) Is doing EMBA at this point a good option for me.
3) Any other good B schools u may suggest.

I dont have eye catching/extra ordinary co-curricular activities as such.

Hi Himanshu,

Thanks for the query. Lets answer your query one by one.
Q : what is the GMAT score required for FMS delhi?
Ans : As far as we know, FMS EMBA doesn't require GMAT scores. Please check the website of FMS for more details.

Q : Is doing EMBA at this point a good option for me?
Ans. It depends on many conditions, primarily your ambition. No single career path is best for all people. Each one have their own conditions and ambitions. EMBA doesn't have a placement support, so its a guess that you want to continue in Coal India post MBA. If not, then your choice requires further deliberations.

Q : Any other good B schools u may suggest.
Ans. Your total experience is 4.5 years, so you can be a good candidate for other elite B-schools as well viz one year full time MBA programs at IIMs and ISB. Since you are yet to give GMAT, you can try to score above 680 and then you will be a good candidate for almost all Indian B schools. You can target foreign B schools as well, the choice will depend on your goals, cultural acceptability and of course financial condition. Your strong point is your experience in Pvt as well as public sector. Plus your work ex years lies in the sweet spot of best fit candidates. If you want a career change, you should aim for a full time program, where your chances are really bright if you score 680+ GMAT. And Don't worry about the gap. Almost 50% candidates working in PSU/govt sector have gap year and such people qualify without any trouble.

PS. These suggestions are based on the input you gave plus some guesses. If you want full fledged discussion with people of similar background who changed their careers post MBA, do contact us. All our discussions are confidential and your privacy is of utmost concern to us. So don't hesitate, we wont make success story videos of you even if you succeed with our help.

Hello Psutoprivate,
Came across your channel today. Must say that you guys are doing pretty impressive work. I request you to kindly evaluate my profile.

Academics
10th: 93%
12th: 79%
B.E: 70.99%
B.E in Mechanical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering( Now DTU)-2013

Work experience
Maruti Suzuki India Limited: 13 months (Production Engineering/Industrial Engineering)
ONGC: 25 months (Drilling Engineer)
Indian Railways, IES: 26+ Months and continuing (IRSME)

Looking to write GMAT next year and will be working with Railways all this while and would be applying for 2023 batch.
Would like to work post MBA in India only preferably in Delhi NCR. Would love to Consider colleges like IIM A,B,C for executive programs and ISB from India. Would also like to explore options from US,UK and other European Business schools like Harvard, Wharton, Haas, MIT Sloan, Booth, Anderson, INSEAD, HEC, Said Oxford , NUS etc.
The only criteria being that I would like to work in India only in the long term.
Kindly evaluate the profile and the prerequisites for admission to these schools. Also please help between IIM and ISB as I would be in 6-7 yrs of work ex when joining any B school.
Does a foreign degree help in getting better jobs in India as opposed to Indian B schools?

Thanks

Hi ashish22ies,

Thanks for sharing your profile.
Lets come to the point.

1. If you would like to work in India post MBA, then do MBA from India. In Indian job market, IIMs and ISBs sell, not the foreign universities.
2. There is not much to choose among IIMs and ISB with 6-7 years of work ex. All are equally good.
3. Your profile has variety of work experience. But marks and work ex years don't define your profile. The quality of work and extra curricular matter more. So, if you can register on our website for a free session, it will help you better to understand your chances.
4. Target GMAT > 700.

Hope it helped.

Not PSUtoPrivate, but taking the liberty to respond. Here's my analysis:
1. GMAT - A score above 665 will surely help. try putting in extra effort on the preparation to that you have a better chance of maximizing the score. You can easily fit in two more tries before deadlines, if need be.
2. Applicants working in the public sector get to work on large scale projects with huge budgets, large teams and bigger accompanying challenges. Such working environments also give applicants a chance to build on their leadership skills and have large quantifiable achievements. Its this aspect that you must focus upon in your applications, not the technical details you have mentioned above. B-schools don't care about you doing all type of piping work and managing salt water networks. You must learn to present those aspects of your profile (leadership skills, interpersonal skills, result orientation, taking ownership) that b-schools will find relevant for evaluating you. Otherwise your application will not stand out and can get lost among thousands others.
3. Regarding career goals- both paths seem alright, but you must think big when framing your career goals, and not seek the next available position. Think about the large impact you wish to create and the legacy you wish to leave through your career. Then work out the short term and long term career path. Hope that helps

Hello Staticwords,

IIM A,B,C need a minimum of 4-5 years of experience at the time of applying; hence, kindly check your eligibility before starting the application process.

If you are looking at ISB, you should target a score in excess of 675 on the GMAT; the higher the better; as you have some time in hand, we suggest you take the test once you are closer to this target. SP Jain is a bit more relaxed on the GMAT front in comparison to the other schools.

All the best!
