I chose B.

Information from the prompt:
R+B=1500

R+B+D+S=T

1).25T=R
NS - Not really any more information than that given

2)B=2/3R
Use the first equation: R+B=1500
R+(2/3)R=1500
(5/3)R=1500
R=1500(3/5)=300*3=900
Can plug it back in if still not convinced: 900+B=1500; B=600
S - B=600

Ans. B

Robin and Barney, the guitarist and bassist, respectively, of a popular band, signed autographs after a concert, as did the singer and drummer. If Robin and Barney signed a total of 1,500 autographs, how many autographs did Barney sign?

(1) Robin signed one-fourth of the total number of autographs signed by the band.
(2) Barney signed two-thirds as many autographs as Robin did.

Kudos for a correct solution.

VERITAS PREP OFFICIAL SOLUTION

Correct Answer: B

Statement 1 tells us that Robin signed one-fourth, or 25%, of the band's total autographs. However, without knowing how many the singer and drummer signed, we cannot determine how many Robin signed, nor how many Barney signed. Statement 1 is insufficient. Statement 2 tells us the relationship between Barney's autographs and Robin's autographs, which make up the total of 1,500 autographs. We know that Barney signed 2 autographs for every 3 autographs that Robin signed, so he signed 2(2+3) = 25 = 40% of the total autographs. .4 * 1500 = 600 autographs signed by Barney. Statement 2 is sufficient, so B is the correct answer.

Robin and Barney, the guitarist and bassist, respectively, of a popular band, signed autographs after a concert, as did the singer and drummer. If Robin and Barney signed a total of 1,500 autographs, how many autographs did Barney sign?

R + B = 1,500

Singer and Drummer = Not known

(1) Robin signed one-fourth of the total number of autographs signed by the band.

Robin signed 1/4 or 25% of total signatures by the band. As we are not aware of the total signatures made by the band we cannot answer, how many signatures did Robin did.

Hence, (1) =====> is NOT SUFFICIENT

(2) Barney signed two-thirds as many autographs as Robin did.

Barney signed 2/3 as many as Robin did.

We know that R + B = 1500

B = 2/3 * R

R = 3/2 * B

B + 3/2 * B = 1500

5B = 3000

B = 600

So, Barney did total of 600 signatues.

Hence, (2) =====> is SUFFICIENT

Hence, Answer is B
