One aspect that will benefit you greatly is your background in finance and the 2 levels of CFA. You need to use that to your advantage as much as possible. The reason why schools are generally more critical of older applicants is usually one of the following: 1. Lack of academic ability since the applicant has been out of college for so long. The MBA curriculum is generally finance-heavy and analytical, so applicants like you who can demonstrate this as a strength will be given due consideration by the target schools.
2. Lack of clarity about future goals. Schools typically place late bloomers with those who aren't ready for employment after the MBA. Again, your background in finance can be helpful, but thorough research of your goals is a must if you want to be taken seriously by schools.

Also be prepared to address the reason (whether you're asked or not) why you didn't consider an MBA sooner. Schools tend to be more lenient when it comes to non-traditional backgrounds, such as the military, navy, entrepreneurship, or community involvement. However, with profiles like yours, any delay in applying for an MBA beyond the pandemic period needs to be carefully considered. For example, if you have been in the same role and function for the past three years and your duties have improved only slightly, but you received a promotion in the middle of the pandemic (around 2020-2022), this could be a valid reason to apply this year. Be prepared to explain why you didn't take this step sooner.

Here are some valuable tips and ideas that can help you address a low GPA in your MBA application:
Read- Navigating a low GPA in B School Applications

Your school selection seems alright. Giving examples of folks (your discussions with alumni) who have been able to make a similar transition through the programs on your list will increase your chances manifold. Therefore definitely ace your research on the target schools.

Your GMAT range seems to be high. As a South Asian applicant, try to maximize your potential on the quant section.

Best wishes

usamazee,
Strengths:
1. Good work experience, showing both maturity and versatility
2. Good College, and high CGPA
3. CFA 2 levels (and hopefully 3rd soon)
4. Career Goal clarity and fits your context
5. International Exposure
6. Nationality & Ethnicity

Challenges:
A. Higher age (suggest you widen your range of schools to include European schools, much more accepting of higher ages)
B. GMAT score (Please do whatever it takes to get it to 710 or higher)
C. ECs (I don't see any, but happy to discuss the possibilities and tease out more from your profile)

Strongly suggest you plan out such that you start on your application work PARALLELLY with your GMAT prep. Given your challenges (add Visa Challenges in the current context), applying to earlier rounds would always be better

Hey usamazee,

With a decade in finance, international exposure, and a unique stint in hydrocarbon energy, your profile showcases depth and diversity. Your CFA progress and decent GMAT projection demonstrate commitment. While GPA is slightly on the lower end, addressing it through optional essays and focusing on significant achievements can alleviate doubts.

You should highlight the impact you made in tech, the kind of process changes you made, and what kind of leadership roles you’ve had. Mention your extracurriculars like volunteering experience and CSR activities.

The schools you are targeting are achievable where HEC Paris is a dream school for you. But, I would recommend some better ones consisting of Tuck, UCLA, LBS, and Chicago Booth.

Keep in mind that your experience is on the higher end so you can mail the school authorities and seek information regarding the full time MBA program eligibility. Else, you are already eligible for an executive MBA.

If you need more help, we'd be happy to set up a call and give more pointers on how to improve your profile and the right schools you should target.
