Hi!
Today I pass my GMAT Focus exam, and I think I failed it, because I have 655(Q83/V70/DI98). I think it is similar to 710 GMAT Classic score. My prep GMAT Focus tests scores were 435=>605=>645=>635=>685=>705, last two tests with the Quant 100%. Now still waiting my TOEFL score, hope it is above 100.

I am a young female from Russia with background in the best tech university in my country (MIPT), working experience in the bigtech companies (banking - Tinkoff, online retail - Ozon), and strong extracurricular profile (I have a music band, and I led some university club while I studied).

So, since I am planning to apply to Top10 USA schools and I need scholarships, I think may be I should not to apply to Booth and MIT Sloan on Round 1, retake the GMAT exam and then go to the Round 2?
What do you think? Really not sure now, what to do
My advise to your query would depend on:

1. whether you feel you can improve the GMAT score. If you're fairly confident, going for a retake and applying in R2 is advisable. Given that you're aiming for the most competitive programs (and scholarship), a higher score can help increase chances

2. how many years work-ex do you have? and what functions/ domains have you worked in? assessing the strength of your professional arc can help ascertain how strong the 655 GFE is, in conjunction to your overall profile

Hello! Thank you for your opinion!
I have 3 years of work experience as project manager and business analyst-product manager. It will be almost 4 in next September. I`m working in AI` department in bank, developing voice robots with the team. Also I have 4 years of work-ex as a Math tutor. So my job is between managing team and analyzing data.

Hi lshirvanyan
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Speaking about your profile a 655 FE is still a strong score, especially with your great academic background from MIPT and experience at big tech companies like Tinkoff and Ozon.
However, since you’re aiming for Top 10 U.S. schools like Booth and MIT Sloan and are looking for scholarships, a higher score could improve your chances. It might be worth retaking the GMAT and applying in Round 2, you should aim for something around 695-705 for strong chances of getting scholarships.

That said, your extracurriculars, like leading a music band and a university club, along with your work experience, will make you stand out.

Hi lshirvanyan,

While your GMAT Focus score of 655 is respectable, given your strong academic background and work experience, you have a competitive profile for top-tier MBA programs.

If you believe you can significantly improve your GMAT score, consider retaking the exam. Focus on areas where you can strengthen your performance. While you wait for your TOEFL score, begin working on other components of your application, such as essays, recommendations, and research on target schools. Consider applying to schools that place less emphasis on standardized tests or have a holistic admissions process. Explore scholarship opportunities offered by your target schools, as well as external scholarships for international students. Emphasize your academic accomplishments, work experience, and extracurricular activities in your scholarship applications.

The MBA admissions process is competitive, and rejection is not uncommon. Focus on areas where you can improve your application and persist in your pursuit of your goals.

Would you like to schedule a free consultation with one of our MBA experts to delve deeper into your profile and develop a tailored application strategy? We can help you identify the best-fit programs and optimize your chances of admission. Our contact number is +91 7780769732.

Hello lshirvanyan,

Thanks for writing in.

If you are looking for scholarships and an admit in the US top ~10 schools, you should look at improving your score and applying in Round 2. Of course, the approach you take will also depend on how confident you are feeling about an improved score (we are assuming you feel there is scope for improvement).

Simultaneously, you may work on the Groundwork for your applications including interacting with alumni from your target schools in order to garner more specific information pertaining to your target programs.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!
