Hey Guys,

Need a bit of advice!
I've taken the GMAT thrice, with the following scores :
630 (Q:47,V:28,IR:8)
690 (Q:49,V:34,IR:7)
740 (Q:49,V:41,IR:6)

My undergrad CGPA is 7.54 out 10. Not too great, but what's worse is that the Math grades in my transcripts are D and E
I want to prove that I'm not a complete idiot in math (I'm not :P my current job involves a lot of complex math!)

Would you guys recommend that I take the GMAT again to showcase my Quant skills.
During my prep earlier, I focused almost exclusively on Verbal and never properly practiced Quant. I think with proper work I can improve my Quant score to 50-51.

Please suggest!

Thanks!

Hey sagshukl!

We think that you've done a phenomenal job of improving your GMAT score. An exemplary score of 740 proves beyond a point that you're definitely no idiot! Our recommendation is that you focus on building a good story for your applications now. Your low Math grades and GPA can both be explained in the applications. Also, since you are handling complex Math now, make sure you bring that bit out through your applications.

All the best and do get back to us in case of queries.

Thanks for the context and congrats on continually improving! It would be great to have more context as I need to know a lot more before advising on a GMAT retake. Here are a few questions, though you can also submit info here for a consultation https://www.personalmbacoach.com/contact

1) Undergrad school
2) Work ex - company, role, # of years, promotion path
3) Post-MBA goals
4) Target schools

Depending on how high you are reaching, you may want to improve the Q49 to show your analytical abilities. That said a 740 is also a good score so give me some more information and I will be able to better advise you.

Best,
Scott

Thank you guys for such swift and uplifting responses!! :-D

My motivation to rethink the GMAT came from : https://gmatclub.com/forum/kellogg-specific-which-gmat-score-220500.html
This guy had 2 scores to consider: 740 (Q47 V45 IR 2) and 730 (Q48 V42 IR 7).
To my surprise, majority recommended him to use the 730 score as it has better Quant.
I really want to make it to Kellogg, which heavily focuses on quant, and hence my desire to improve on the Quant score! :)

14101992 Apphelp JonAdmissionado Thank you for the suggestions. The positive comments really help! I've a pretty stupid reason of getting an E in math, but let me see how I can craft a story around it.

MBADecoder Thank you for the suggestion Namita. I went through MBAmath.com and it looks like a great way to showcase my math prowess!! A very valuable pointer, thanks again :-D I'm not really scared about retaking as I am thinking solely from the Quant perspective; but you are right, transcripts from MBAmath.com will also help prove that I can deal with the math.

PersonalMBACoach Thank you for the initiative Scott , I would love to furnish the details -
1)
Did my undergrad in Computer Science from MIT Manipal (https://indiatoday.intoday.in/bestcolleg ... =15&Y=2015). Graduated in 2012 and joined as an engineer in Cisco Systems.

2) I'll highlight my top 3 :
5 years at Cisco. My group is not big on title promos, so I've only been promoted once on title. But I've received considerable salary hikes every year; I've also graduated from being an engineer to a team lead to the program manager for an entire module. I've also led many recruitment drives.
I've worked in my family business (a Pathology Lab in rural India). I've led multiple drives to educate on vaccinations and other diseases. I've also implemented many innovative schemes to quantifiably increase the turnover for my lab.
I've led many teaching drives for visually impaired students, both at Cisco and my home town. Recently I led a team to develop an app for teaching english spelling to visually impaired students. Collaborated with an NGO to improve it's scale.

3)
Post-MBA goal is management consulting. MBB would be the dream :-D

4)
Target schools-
Stretch : Kellogg(DREAM!!), Fuqua, Sloan, Tuck
Reach : Anderson, Ross, Cornell, Kenan-Flagler
Safe : Goizueta, Kelly, Owen, McDonough, Rotman

Applied to INSEAD this year R1, dinged without interview :(
Do tell me if my school selection is too much of a stretch!
I'll be happy to know your thoughts on retaking the GMAT or any other initiates I can take up.

Thanks again everyone!
