Hey panpan19,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

Your profile looks good on the surface. However, you belong to an over-represented pool of candidates. In order to establish your academic profile, you would need a strong GMAT score, since you have mentioned about a retake, try scoring around 730-740. (Average score for Sloan fellow program).

On the work front, 7 years of work experience is sufficient to portray your leadership qualities (Working as a senior manager). Your experience involves a lot of transition in various domains, though it diversifies your profile, you would need to have satisfactory reasons for the shift. You would need to add specific achievements from your work.

If properly worked upon, you stand a good chance. We would like to know your USP, EC’s and post MBA goals to get a better understanding of your profile. If you’d like, we’d be happy to get on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length and further chances to the business schools. We’ll be pleased to help you and make your profile stand out more. Feel free to schedule a call with us here for in-depth profile evaluation & get additional benefits.

Cheers!

On paper, you definitely have a shot. Your challenge will be using your experiences to create an MBA story that helps you stand out. It's not an easy task even when candidates get the "required" accomplishments. Here is a framework you can use to make sure you build your MBA application the right way: https://www.mymbapath.com/mba-story-guide

Also, one thing that can never be captured on paper but can make or break an MBA candidacy is the overall presence of the candidate and their communication skills. It's helpful to keep this in mind.

Best of luck!

Yes, you will be a strong candidate for R1 admission next year. While you have the time (a real luxury!), you should do the following:

(1) Build up your EC activities. They are good, but you can do even better.

(2) Foster relationships with the schools on your list by attending admissions events, talking to current and former students, and visiting the campuses.

(3) Refining your career goal. PE post-MBA isn't all that interesting by itself. If you are committed to PE, you should refine this plan by uncovering a unique angle with PE.

Let us know if we can help in any way. We actually have a Advanced Planning Program which is a really great way to focus on folks such as yourself who are looking a year out and want to beef up their profile prior to the start of the next application season.

Hi Everyone,
I’d love your feedback on my profile for MIT Sloan.

27-Year-Old Indian Male

Under Grad – Economics Major from one of the top undergrad colleges in the country with a 6.48/10 GPA. (The GPA is def going to be a pain in the ass)

GRE – 337 (V – 169, Q – 168)

Work Ex – 7 years at matriculation, 5 Years in Consulting across India, UAE, and Israel with 2 different boutique management consulting firms. I have traveled to Israel for 1 year and traveled to UAE for 2 years.
Currently heading Consulting and Implementation for an Israeli product-based startup (It’s a spin-off of my first organization and they called me back to head the consulting and implementation arm)
1 promotion in the last 1 year in the current job

Leadership: Captain of the college basketball team, Part of an 8-member organizing committee of the college’s sport fest

Extracurricular: National level basketball player and represented my state at All India level tournaments during college time (That’s why my GPA got ****), taught underprivileged kids during college time, worked for TeachForIndia (Taught underprivileged post covid) for 2 years, I have my own podcast on NBA, I own 5 retail outlets in India with an ARR of $1.5 Million

Post MBA Goal – Work for a consulting firm mostly an MBB and then specialize in the Retail, F&B, and CPG sector to become a partner eventually (Aligns with the work and projects that I have done in the last 6 years)

Recommenders – One is from Booth. Both will write great LORs for me.

Hi shashijangir08,

Overall, your profile is strong. You have a good GRE score, good work experience with a nice growth trajectory, clear post-MBA goals etc. However, your GPA is a concern for B schools, especially MIT Sloan, which is your target school. Having said that, since you seem to have genuine reasons for the low GPA, you can explain these reasons in the optional section. Additionally, the good GRE score must offset the low GPA and show that you are academically capable. You could also consider taking some additional courses or workshops to improve your academic skills. This would show that you are committed to your education and improve the confidence of the adcom.

Coming to the LORs, while a Booth recco will be impressive, you need to ensure that this is coming from a person who has closely supervised you. They must be able to give very detailed reviews of your work, strengths and weaknesses. Quality of recommendation matter more than the position it comes from.

For a more detailed 1-1 strategy session, please write to contactus@admitexpert.com or fill the form at http://www.admitexpert.com

Good luck!

Hi,

The GRE score is definitely a killer- I haven't yet come across anyone with such a score so I am impressed (Sad thing, I am not an adcom member, LOL). Hope this makes up for the low GPA. The GPA is definitely a concern, but you have a decent reason. playing national level sports is an achievement. Say it out in the optional essay and tell how this experience also helped shape some elements of your personality. Infact I like your ECAs overall and would be interested to know more about owning the 5 retail outlets.
The international bit in your work experience sounds very interesting. Now, MIT does look for applicants who are creative/ innovative- so if you have worked on projects where you had to think differently to achieve outcomes, you must bring it out in your essays. The Israeli experience could really speak to this. To sum up, as you already know- the GPA is a glitch in an otherwise great profile. Take this seriously when putting together your application. Also, cast a wider net with regards to the b-schools where you apply. That should see you get a few worthy admits.
I'd be happy to chat and discuss further.

Yes, you should be competitive for Sloan. Your GPA isn't a major concern given the strengths of your GRE, work experience, and extracurricular involvement. You may want to address it in your optional essay if there is a legitimate reason for your lower-than-desired GPA.

Speaking of which, you should be focusing on your essays; in the case of MIT Sloan, that means your cover letter and video.

If we can help, please don't hesitate to reach out for a free consultation.

Hello shashijangir08,

Apologies for the delayed response but we hope this finds you in time still.

Do not worry too much about your GPA; your top-notch GRE score will help compensate to a large extent. The career goals sync well and the extra-curricular activities sound meaningful. Your focus should entirely be on putting forth a set of compelling essays and ensuring strong recommendations.

If you are able to take care of the above, you have a strong chance.

All the best!

Dear candidates,

I often get asked by MBA applicants about how to improve their profile for the admissions process. While each profile is unique, there are certain themes and experiences that B-schools value.

Check out my recent article covering 10 different ways to improve your profile.

Hey rs3003,

You have a strong profile with a diverse set of experiences and accomplishments, making you a competitive candidate for top MBA programs like Harvard, MIT Sloan, and Wharton. Your GRE score of 330 is quite strong, but if you're considering taking the GMAT, it could add to your application, especially if you perform well. Admissions committees at these schools usually have a range of scores they consider competitive. If you believe you can significantly improve your GMAT score, it might be worth retaking the test.

Your target schools—Harvard, MIT Sloan, and Wharton—are all prestigious and competitive. They value a mix of academic excellence, leadership potential, and unique experiences. Given your profile, you have a realistic chance at all three schools. However, admission to these programs is highly competitive.

Your post-MBA goals are currently not crystal clear, which is fine as long as you can articulate a thoughtful narrative about how your past experiences, skills, and aspirations align with your potential future path. Whether you choose to join your family business or a VC fund, make sure your goals are well-researched and coherent.

Ultimately, your application will be judged in its entirety—your academic record, test scores, work experience, extracurricular activities, essays, and recommendations. Spend time crafting compelling essays that showcase your achievements, growth, and potential contributions. Also, leverage your recommenders to emphasize your strengths and fit for the MBA programs.

Best of luck with your MBA journey!

We offer a limited number of complimentary profile evaluations each week . We match you with the students and alums of top B-Schools according to your background and target schools. Hi,
What does a general profile which secures an admit to Sloan considers especially for a very common applicant pool like Indian IT/ Software Developer.
What would be the sort of profile they look for in terms of GMAT scores / Work ex / Acads and extra curriculars.

Hello AmeyPatil9696,

Thanks for writing in.

While one cannot speak of a "general profile" per se, for someone belonging to an overrepresented pool of applicants such as an Indian male from an IT background, a spike in certain factors will be essential. Indians applying to schools such as Sloan will be expected to have a GMAT score in excess of 750, significant professional achievements, unique co-curricular engagements, and potential for leadership. In addition to this, academic pedigree is an overall plus.

The above is only a general idea; however, the larger point we are trying to make is that the applicant will need to stand out and a combination of the above points (if not all) will help you do so.

The following video may help you gain an understanding of the qualities a business school values:

Hope this helps.

All the best!
