In terms of healthcare, the Boston/Cambridge area has an incredible density of large pharmaceutical companies and vibrant biotech start-ups. The list is too long to name, but if you could think of any large company in that space, regardless of from the US or Japan/Europe, I´ve probably walked by their offices/research labs in the last couple of months.
The school also makes an effort to connect with that eco system via classes and initiatives such as the "healthcare certificate".
When it comes to student life, everything has been relatively quiet due to Covid, but I wouldn´t consider my classmates any more nerdy than the people I´ve met from HBS or during my interviews in Cambridge, UK. To be fair, I am yet to meet the Brazilian models that were described earlier in this thread though.
In addition, MIT has some collaboration with the other Cambridge school when it comes to the healthcare space, so there is quite a lot going on in that sector up here in greater Boston.
However, I defer to
ENGRTOMBA2018 when it comes to an assessment of Kellogg and the opportunities in the Midwest. I´ve never been to Chicago, but I heard very positive things about the local schools in Northwestern and U Chicago.
The 80k scholarship is nothing to sneeze at, so I fully understand if that becomes a determining factor.
Regardless of which uni you end up choosing, take the MBB sponsorship.
It is a safety net and an interest-free loan, most of my classmates who want to leave MBB have taken the sponsorship for exactly those reasons.
If I can be of help providing additional information about Sloan in general please let me know.
