1. The passage mentions all the following events as contributing to the decline of the Iroquois culture EXCEPT:

(A) new educational opportunities for the Iroquois people.
(B) divisive power struggles among the leaders of the Iroquois nations.
(C) introduction of new farming technologies.
(D) territorial threats against the Iroquois nations.
(E) discord among the nations regarding their role in the American Revolution.

All the other options are stated in the passage. However, evidence suggesting that there were divisive power struggles among leaders of the Iroquois nations is not stated in the passage.
(A) The Quakers established schools for Iroquois. - stated
(C) Quakers taught the Iroquois new technologies in agriculture and husbandry.
(D) After winning the 1776 revolution, the revolutionaries encroached upon the land of the Iroquois.
(E) This is stated in the opening sentence of the passage. This was one of the reasons for their decline.

2. Among the following reasons, it is most likely that the author considers Handsome Lake’s leading a revival of the Iroquois culture to be “ironic” because

(A) he was a former member of the Great Council.
(B) he was not a full-blooded relative of Seneca Cornplanter.
(C) he was related by blood to an important proponent of assimilation.
(D) Seneca Cornplanter was Lake’s alcoholic half-brother.
(E) his religious beliefs conflicted with traditional Iroquois beliefs.

Cornplanter was the most outspoken proponent among the Iroquois for assimilation of white customs and institutions and Handsome was his blood relative who lead the revival of the Iroquois culture. These two idologies stand in stark contrast with each other. Therefore, the author states that it is irnoncial for Lake to help revive Iroquois culture when his own blood relative was someone against it. Thus, (C) is the correct answer.

3. Assuming that the reasons asserted by the author for the decline of the Iroquois culture are historically representative of the decline of cultural minorities, which of the following developments would most likely contribute to the demise of a modern-day ethnic minority?

(A) A bilingual education program in which children who are members of the minority group learn to read and write in both their traditional language and the language prevalent in the present culture.
(B) A tax credit for residential property owners who lease their property to members of the minority group.
(C) Increased efforts by local government to eradicate the availability of illegal drugs.
(D) The declaration of a national holiday commemorating a past war in which the minority group played an active role.
(E) A government-sponsored program to assist minority owned businesses in using computer technology to improve efficiency.

We infer from the passage that among the reasons responsible for the decline of the Iroquious culture was that they were introduced to new technology that gave them some hope for the future yet undermined the Iroquois’ sense of national identity. Option (E) resonates with this reason. Therefore, it is the correct answer IMO.

One of the reasons asserted by author for the decline of Iroquois is that modern tech & edu were introduced to them but there was no recognition or importance given to good aspects of Iroquois culture

(A) A bilingual education program in which children who are members of the minority group learn to read and write in both their traditional language and the language prevalent in the present culture. Incorrect. Importance given to both new & old
(B) A tax credit for residential property owners who lease their property to members of the minority group. Incorrect.
(C) Increased efforts by local government to eradicate the availability of illegal drugs. incorrect. Introduction of spirits led to decline So, this would not

Lake established a new religion among the Iroquois, which tied the more useful aspects of Christianity to traditional Indian beliefs and customs”

1. The passage mentions all the following events as contributing to the decline of the Iroquois culture EXCEPT:

(A) new educational opportunities for the Iroquois people.

(B) divisive power struggles among the leaders of the Iroquois nations. Correct

(C) introduction of new farming technologies.

(D) territorial threats against the Iroquois nations.

(E) discord among the nations regarding their role in the American Revolution.

Explaination: Since all of the rest of the options are mentioned in the passage.
Option A and C as : "By establishing schools for the Iroquois and by introducing them to modern technology for agriculture and husbandry, the Quakers instilled in the Iroquois some hope for the future".
Option D as "Because of the success of the revolutionaries and the encroachment upon Iroquois lands that followed".
Option E as :"The decline of the Iroquois Indian nations began during the American Revolution of 1776, when disagreement among them as to whether they should become involved in the war began to divide the Iroquois."

So option B, seems the best choice.

(D) Seneca Cornplanter was Lake’s alcoholic half-brother.
(E) his religious beliefs conflicted with traditional Iroquois beliefs. - Correct

Correct answer E, since among the rest of the options, A is out, since it is incorrect as per information in the passage. Now w.r.t option B,C &D, it doesnt seem ironic.
What seems ironic is the fact that he was alcoholic which was the sole reason of the downgrade of the Iroquois culture and population, as it's clearly mentioned in the passage, through the lines:"The introduction of distilled spirits resulted in widespread alcoholism, leading in turn to the rapid decline of both the culture and population."
So option E is the correct answer.

- Correct

Explaination - since a government program will provide hope for the future of the people and they would eventually move away from their identity , as its mentioned in the passage :"By establishing schools for the Iroquois and by introducing them to modern technology for agriculture and husbandry, the Quakers instilled in the Iroquois some hope for the future yet undermined the Iroquois’ sense of national identity.".
Options A,B,C,D wont do anything to cause the demise of modern day ethnic minority.
