Hi There,

I think you may have a good shot at some of your target programs even with your current GMAT score. Having said that, if the possibility exists for you to have a higher score, I would encourage you to do the retake.

The better strategy for now would be to work on your essays and other application material in parallel. If your score improves, submit your application in R1. If it doesn't then move your application to R2.

Best,
Karthik

Hello experts ! I am relatively new to GMAT club, so hopefully this is the best fit for my question. I found quite a bit of topics that are close to my problem, but some reassurance on my individual case would be much appreciated.

Long story short: Yesterday I took the GMAT and scored 680 (Q49 V35). I am a bit disappointed by myself, as I was consistently scoring above 700 on the GMAT preps, but flunked the verbal on the real thing. Anyway, I will have a seperate topic to verify the technical side of how to improve my score, but I believe I could do better if I had a second chance in about month from now. However, I feel that going for a second try in August would mean I will have only about 2-3 weeks to prepare the rest of the application elements before R1 deadlines. This seems to me a bit rushed, especially that I haven't yet engaged a second recommendor and have not really started working on my essays. Have been focusing purely on the GMAT the last couple of months.

The question is: should I try to improve my GMAT score in August and potentially apply in R2 (as R1 seems stretch) ? This does not guarantee that I will score higher in August, so might end up applying with the same score, but in R2 instead. Alternatively, should I go ahead with my application and current score, focusing on my reco's and essays from now until R1 deadlines?

About myself:

Target schools: LBS, INSEAD, Oxbridge;

Nationality: Small country from the Balkans (in EU); Male;
Age: 27;

Education: B.S. from a small Liberal arts college in my home country - top school, but only in my country :) ;
Majors: Economics / Business; GPA: 3.8 (don't quote me on this one, it was somewhere there :) )

GMAT: 680 (first attempt);

Extracurriculars: Have participated in a couple of clubs in my Uni and tutored in accounting.
After graduation, I took a professional certificate sponsored by my company, but not much more than that;

Experience:
5 years in Consumer Goods / Medical devices company; Finance / Controlling
Various roles with progression, changing roles in 3 different foreign countries in Europe;

Objectives: Consulting or expolore different job functions through MBA Leadership programs of top companies;

Thank you in advance for your invaluable input !
