Hey guys I just wanted to share with you something I've noticed. This is probably applicable to Verbal and Quant but I've only experienced it in verbal (I've never gotten the first 7 right on quant.)
We all know that the impact of a question on your score decreases the further along you go. I've seen it twice now that when I get the first 7 correct, the rest of my exam pretty much takes care of itself. All of these practice tests were from the Economist.
Test 1: I got the first 7 and missed 19 of the next 34 (evenly dispersed) and got a V41 (93%) Test 2: I missed #5 and #6 and then missed 12 of the next 34 and get a V36 (79%) Test 3: I missed 4 of the first 7 and 13 of the next 34 and got a V30 (56%) Test 4: I missed 3 of the first 7 and 9 of the next 34 and get a V30 (58%) Test 5: I got the first 7 and missed 17 of the next 34 (less evenly dispersed and slightly concentrated towards the end) and got a V40 (92%)
So here's what you need to do about it. You're going to get a reading comp set in this first 7. This means you have to get them all correct. But don't freak out. This is the easiest RC set you'll get and the questions are predetermined when you arrive at the set. What i'm getting at is that this set has the greatest reward to risk ratio. Because the questions are predetermined, they'll be about the same level and you'll see a massive jump after getting them (and the questions before) all right.
Bottom line. Embrace reading comp. You have to. And understand that if there is ever a place you want to spend 3-4 minutes on a problem, its in these first 7.

It's a worthy insight. I'm gonna capitalize this .
Scenario analysis on GMAT Prep software also reveals that the initial questions are fairly critical than others for score boost up.
FIRST 11 questions incorrect : V22 Last 11 questions incorrect : V38 [assuming all other correct].
The first 7 questions are very important as they set the difficulty level for later questions. I have noticed that if i mess up early in the section, my score is low even though i answer all later questions correctly.
