why 30% and not 28%

The fruit in a box weighs a ton and has a moisture content of 82.0%. After some time under the sun, moisture content has dropped to 70%. What is the current weight of the fruit in kg?

A. 810
B. 900
C. 600
D. 720
E. 780

The weight of moisture is 82% of 1 ton or 1000kg, that is 82*1000/100=820kg.

Weight of the remaining portion =1000-720=180. Now this remains constant in weight even after moisture reduces, but now becomes 100-70 or 30% overall.

So 180=30% of new weight. Thus new weight = 180*100/30=600

C

Where does 28% come from?

We’re equating the weight of the pulp (the non-water part), which stays the same before and after drying.

So: 0.18 * 1000 = 0.3 * (1000 - x). Solving gives x = 400, so the current weight is 1000 - 400 = 600 kg.

Answer: C.
