Re: The ratio of Shaiba’s age 4 years ago and Vinod’s age after 4 years is [#permalink]
ANSWER:B
Let S and V be present age of Shaiba and vinod respectively.
given, The ratio of Shaiba’s age 4 years ago and Vinod’s age after 4 years is 1: 1 = S-4/V+4= 1/1
Also given,present age ratio= S/V=5/3
from solving above equation,we get=S=20 AND V=12
now ,S+4/V-4= 20+4/12-4=24/8=3

Re: The ratio of Shaiba’s age 4 years ago and Vinod’s age after 4 years is [#permalink]
Let Shaiba’s current age = s
Let Vinod's current age = v

s-4=v+4 => s-v=8 --(1)
s/v = 5/3 => 3s= 5v => s=5v/3

putting value of s in (1)
5v/3 -v =8 => v=12
=> s = 20

Required ratio s+4/v-4 = 24/8 = 3/1 => 3:1

Re: The ratio of Shaiba’s age 4 years ago and Vinod’s age after 4 years is [#permalink]
Let Sahiba present age be S
Vinod present age be V

=> S-4/v+4 = 1/1
=> S-4 = V+4 ----------(1)

=> S/V = 5/3
=> S = 5V/3 ----------(2)

Putting value in equation 1
=> (5V/3)-4 = V+4
=> 5V-12 = 3V+12
=> 2V = 24
=> V = 12
Therefore S = 5*12/3 = 20

The ratio of Shaiba’s age 4 years hence and Vinod’s age 4 years ago. => S+4/V-4 = 20+4/12-4 => 24/8 => 3:1

Let Present age of Shaiba & Vinod be 5x & 3x resp.

A/Q, 5x-4= 3x+4
=> 2x = 8
=> x = 4

Req. Ratio = (5x+4)/(3x-4) = 24/8 = 3

Re: The ratio of Shaiba’s age 4 years ago and Vinod’s age after 4 years is [#permalink]
Let Shaiba's present age be \(s\) and Vinod's present age be \(v\)

The ratio of Shaiba’s age \(4\) years ago and Vinod’s age after \(4\) years is \(1: 1\)

\(\frac{s-4}{v+4}=\frac{1}{1}\)

\(s-4=v+4\)

\(s-v=8\) ------------- (I)

Presently, the ratio of their ages is \(5: 3\)

\(\frac{s}{v}=\frac{5}{3}\)

\(3s=5v\) --------------- (II)

Multiply (I) by \(3\)

\(3s-3v=24\)

Substitute \(3s=5v\)

\(5v-3v=24\)

\(v=12\) and so \(s=20\)

Ratio between Shaiba’s age \(4\) years hence and Vinod’s age \(4\) years ago = \(\frac{s+4}{v-4}\) \(= \frac{24}{8} = \frac{3}{1}\)

Answer is (B)

Given:
1. The ratio of Shaiba’s age 4 years ago and Vinod’s age after 4 years is 1: 1.
2. Presently, the ratio of their ages is 5: 3.
Asked: Find the ratio between Shaiba’s age 4 years hence and Vinod’s age 4 years ago.
A. 1 : 3
B. 3 : 1
C. 4 : 3
D. 3 : 4
E. 4 : 5

Let Shaiba's present age be s & Vinod's present age be v

1. The ratio of Shaiba’s age 4 years ago and Vinod’s age after 4 years is 1: 1.
\(\frac{s - 4}{v+4} = \frac{1}{1}\)
s - 4 = v + 4
s = v + 8 (1)

2. Presently, the ratio of their ages is 5: 3.
\(\frac{s}{v} = \frac{5}{3}\)
\(\frac{v+8}{v} = \frac{5}{3}\)
v=12
s=12+8=20

The ratio between Shaiba’s age 4 years hence and Vinod’s age 4 years ago =\( \frac{s+4}{v-4} = \frac{24}{8} = \frac{3}{1}\)

let Shaiba age be x and Vinod age be y
given
x-4/y+4 = 1/2--1
and x/y = 5/3--2
target find x+4 /y-4

first find x & y from 1 &2
we get x=20 and y=12
so target value ; 24/8 ; 3/1

Re: The ratio of Shaiba’s age 4 years ago and Vinod’s age after 4 years is [#permalink]
Given Shaiba's age is s and Vinod's age is v years (at present)
Shaiba's age 4 years ago : Vinod's age after 4 years =1:1 (given)
(s-4)=(v+4)....eq1
s/v=5/3 (given ratio of current ages)
thus S=5/3v ...eq2
plugging eq2 in eq1 , we get (5/3v)-4=v+4 ie (5/3v)-v=4+4=8=2/3v thus v =12 years
so S= 20 years
S's age 4 years hence will be S+4= 24 years
V's age 4 years ago is given by V-4=12-4=8 years
ratio S+4/v-4= 24/8=3:1 >>Option B

Solution

    • Let us assume that current age of Shaiba and Vinod is s and v, in years, respectively.
4 years ago
    • Age of Shiaba \(= s – 4\)
    • Age of Vinod \(= v – 4\)
4 years after
    • Age of Shaiba \(= s + 4\)
    • Age of Vinod \(= v + 4\)
We need to find the ratio of \(s + 4 : v – 4\)
    • According to the question:
      o \(\frac{s – 4}{v + 4} = \frac{1}{1}⟹ s – 4 = v + 4 ⟹ s – v = 8 …………Eq.(i)\)
      o Also, \(\frac{s}{v} = \frac{5}{3} ⟹ s = \frac{5}{3}*v ……..Eq.(ii)\)
      o From Eq.(i) and Eq.(ii), we have,
         \(\frac{5}{3}*v – v = 8 ⟹ \frac{2}{3}*v = 8 ⟹ v = 12\)
      o Substituting the value of v from the above equation into Eq.(i), we get,
         \(s = 12 + 8 = 20 \)
      o Therefore, \(s+4 : v – 4 = 20+4 : 12 – 4 = 24 : 8 = 3 : 1\)
Thus, the correct answer is Option B.

(S-4)/(V+4)=1/1

s-4 = v+4
s=v+8

currently the ratio is s/v = 5/3
3s = 5v
5v = 3(v+8)
2v = 24
v=12
s= 20
the ratio between Shaiba’s age 4 years hence and Vinod’s age 4 years ago = 24/8 = 3:1
