To entice the most gifted painters, some galleries are suggesting a larger percentage of commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them.

To entice the painters Galleries are doing two things:
1) Suggesting larger percentage of commissions
2) Letting them chose the gallery that suits them

Verb+ing doesn't makes sense here because both events are not linked with each other.

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them
---> as mentioned above (wrong)

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves
---> Can be eliminated easily, awkward (wrong)

Now there's close call between "Them" and "Themselves"

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves
---> "Themselves" isn't a correct usage, should be them

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them

---> correct

IMO, answer is D

To entice the most gifted painters, some galleries are suggesting a larger percentage of commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them.

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them -- CORRECT, "letting" correctly uses participial modifier to modify the previous clause. "Them" is also the correct object pronoun.

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves -- This is a run-on sentence(Comma-splice). 2 ICs with main verbs fused together by comma.(are suggestion and choose). Themselves is not the correct pronoun as the artists are not exerting action on themselves.

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves-- same error described in latter part of explanation of answer option D

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them -- "are suggesting... let" is not verb parallelism

So, the answer is A, IMO.

IMO - A

To entice the most gifted painters, some galleries are suggesting a larger percentage of commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them.

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them - Correct- "Letting" is used as a modifier here. "letting artists choose most suited to them" is giving us more information about what happens when "galleries charge a large percentage of commission"

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves- Incorrect- There's no need for the reflexive "themselves." also there are two IC connected by a comma.

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves - Incorrect- - There's no need for the reflexive "themselves." Also both action (suggesting & letting ) aren't independent.

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them - Incorrect- - Parallelism "Suggesting & Let" & Meaning Error to with use of "and"- (Two independent actions)

A humble request – please give kudos if the explanation helps.

The answer is C.

First lets dissect the sentence.

This is phrase that modifies the noun some galleries

2) some galleries are suggesting a larger percentage of commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them.

This a list and tests the concept of parallelism.
Some galleries are suggesting… and letting…

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them

This answer choice does not have the conjunction and.

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves

This answer choice does not have the conjunction and.
Most suited to them to themselves is awkward and wordy and is incorrect.

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves

This is the correct answer choice.

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them

The list Some galleries are suggesting… and let – is not a parallel list.

The answer is C

To entice the most gifted painters, some galleries are suggesting a larger percentage of commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them.

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them - 'verb-ing' modifier letting tries to modify 'commissions'. However, this is incorrect. These two aspects are unrelated. They must be separated by 'and'.

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves - This sentence has multiple errors. There is no connection between the commissions and the artists. Separating them by a comma does not make sense. This is a run-on sentence! Also, 'to them to themselves' is convoluted at best and does not seem to convey the clear meaning.

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves
- correct answer. Parallelism is correct. the use of 'themselves' is also clear and correct.

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them - Parallelism if off here. suggesting and letting are parallel to each other - not suggesting and let. Also, the pronoun 'them' is ambiguous here. 'themselves' is better suited for this situation.

Meaning of the sentence: To entice the most gifted painters, some galleries are 1) suggesting a larger percentage of commissions and 2) letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves. So we need a parallel structure of the form " Some galleries are x and y" where x and y are parallel verb forms.

A) " letting artists choose" modifies the entire previous clause which is not the intended meaning of the sentence. The sentence intends to provide a list of parallel actions of some galleries. Incorrect.
B) Creates a comma splice by joining two independent clauses inappropriately. Also, there is redundancy with the usage of "to themselves" after "to them". Incorrect.
C) Gets the meaning and parallel structure correct. The use of reflexive pronoun 'themselves" is also correct. Correct answer.
D) The two verbs " suggesting" and "let" are not parallel to each other. Incorrect.
E) As in choice D, the two verbs " suggesting" and "let" are not parallel to each other. Also, there is a subject verb agreement error in this sentence. Gallery is singular and thus the verb "are" is incorrectly used and it should be "is". Incorrect.

To entice the most gifted painters, some galleries are suggesting a larger percentage of commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them.

According to the meaning of the sentence, two things are happening to entice the most gifted painters:
1) some galleries are suggesting a larger percentage of commissions.
2) some galleries are letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them

If we look at the options, only C has the stated meaning and maintains parallelism.

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them

Change in meaning along with parallelism being distorted. Also them can be called ambigous here

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves

Change in meaning along with parallelism being distorted.

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves

Correct meaning along with parallelism. Themselves also removes the ambiguity and refers to artists as a reflective pronoun.

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them

Parallelism again not maintained here. Also 'them' can be considered ,in some sense, ambigous

(E) commissions and let artists choose the gallery that are most suited to themselves

Parallelism again not maintained here.

Answer should hence be 'C', IMO

To entice the most gifted painters, some galleries are suggesting a larger percentage of commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them.

This question is similar to OG question, i.e. To attract the most talented workers, some companies are offering a wider range of benefits, letting employees pick those most important to them.

Some galleries are suggesting a larger %age of commissions to entice the most gifted painters, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them.
Here, commissions is an object, but there's no reason why a pronoun can't refer back to an object and pronouns can refer to subjects or objects. 'Letting' is used as a modifier here and 'letting artists choose (the commissions) most suited to them" is giving us more information about what happens when galleries are suggesting a larger %age of commissions.

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them - hold it.

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves - suspicious use of them and themselves, referring to artists or commissions???

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves - violates parallelism & changes the meaning of original sentence.

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them - again same parallelism error

(E) commissions and let artists choose the gallery that are most suited to themselves - again same parallelism error

Imo. A

I believe artists is the modifier here, so them refers to it in the last sentence. In the question, entice word plays an vital role along with commission. To entice the artists, two benefits were given to artists - ‘the commission and letting artists choose’ that’s what making sense to me but I could be wrong.

So my answer is E

Answer : C

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them - INCORRECT
Reason : Themselves must be used instead of Them

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves - INCORRECT
Reason : Multiple ICs joined inappropriately. Run-on sentence.

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves - CORRECT
Reason : Parallelism error rectifies. Themselves is the correct possessive form of relative pronoun that must be used

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them - INCORRECT
Reason : Themselves must be used instead of Them

(E) commissions and let artists choose the gallery that are most suited to themselves - INCORRECT
Reason : Parallelism error

The answer is C.

In SC, we must pause at verbs/verb-like and relative pronouns. That helps in breaking the sentence and correcting understanding which clause/phrase is being used to define which entity. Definitely helps in parallelism.

Hope this helps!

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them

(E) commissions and let artists choose the gallery that are most suited to themselves

This sentence tests parallelism.
Also, larger % of commissions and choosing a gallery most suited are independent things.

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them
This option makes choosing of a suitable gallery dependent of % of commissions which is incorrect
- Incorrect

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves
the part after comma doesn't modify commissions and makes the sentence construction awkward
- Incorrect

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves
suggesting a larger % of commissions and letting artists choose
These two are parallel here.
- Correct

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them
suggesting a larger % of commissions and let artists choose
The parallelism here is incorrect
- Incorrect

(E) commissions and let artists choose the gallery that are most suited to themselves
suggesting a larger % of commissions and let artists choose
The parallelism here is incorrect
- Incorrect

(A) commissions, letting artists choose the gallery most suited to them
usage of verb-ing after commissions is incorrect. Verb-ing at the end of the sentence modifies the entire preceding clause. here that doesn't make sense

(B) commissions, artists choose the gallery most suited to them to themselves
i. FANBOY error by using just a comma after commissions (cant use a comma to join two clauses)
ii. most suited to them to themselves

(C) commissions and letting artists choose the gallery most suited to themselves
Parallel structure: To entice the most gifted painters, some galleries are suggesting X and letting Y

(D) commissions and let artists choose the gallery most suited to them
not parallel as per the required structure explained above

(E) commissions and let artists choose the gallery that are most suited to themselves
