If nothing else it tests your desire to go to Sloan so think of it is a positive thing. And I'm sure we will face some bigger tests at school, and in our future careers as amazing and inspirational managers.

I agree though, it is very difficult to be passionate in your applications to other schools when you have this real possibility just around the corner. All of which makes for a pretty busy Christmas/New Year if the result is a ding!

Stay positive my friend. If I read it right, most interviewees will get an offer (20% typically interviewed, 13% acceptance rate = 65% chance of success).

would love the collective brilliance of the group here:

for essay 2, the prompt specifically states that it should be something that has happened in the last three years; however, the guides that some of the consultants have put out seem to stress that the first essay should include situations that have also happened in the last three years without the prompt necessarily saying so.

question: is it okay to talk about instances more than three years ago in essay 1? i have a few things i'd like to talk about outside of the three year timeframe.

best of luck to everyone waiting in R1

Hey

My personal opinion- try to write more about recent occasions. Generally, these should serve the admission committee as better data points to estimate your potential for future success.

That being said, I think you can write about events older than three years in essay 1. Notice the prompt in the essay upload page inside your online application: "For essay 2 only, limit the experiences you discuss to those which have occurred in the past three years."

Generally if your older experiences give a solid insight into how you can lead, innovate, and contribute - I would add them, but for a second example in essay 1, I would look for a connection between these past experience to your current ones.

(I added the bold highlighter...)

Good luck!

I wrote 3 examples in essay 1, and they were experiences from 5~9 years ago.
Absolutely no problem. Got the interview invitation.

Good luck to you!

So I should start getting sweaty palms a lot earlier than 12/20!?

There is also some advice on MIT Sloan's website that "The Admissions Committee [...] will notify applicants of their decision on or before the deadline." [mitsloan.mit.edu/mba/admissions/apply-here/schedule/]

I have officially turned into one of those people checking every detail of the admissions website! Good luck everyone!!
I don't think so.

I believe that those individuals receiving earlier decisions are referred to by this statement: "**Decisions will be released early for some candidates who will be denied admission without an interview."

:)

Hi guys, I understand all admits will come on 12/20.

This is part of a mail received from adcomm after my interview. Subject of the mail is MIT Sloan Interview Thank You

Information for MIT Sloan School MBA Applicants

Notification of Decision

Decisions will be communicated online (through your ApplyYourself account) after 5 p.m. EST on Friday, December 20, 2013, to candidates who submitted a completed applications by the September 24, 2013 deadline.

If you decide to attend another school before we release our decision, we would appreciate hearing from you. Please direct your email to [email protected] at your earliest convenience.

Good luck!!

Since we're all freaking out here anyways, did anyone see their supplemental essays viewed AFTER they interviewed?

Did everybody that was interviewed send a supplemental essay? I don't know if I'm just curious about people's supplemental essays or trying to distract myself from getting too nervous about next friday

Lizzz, probably not. It is optional after all, and it's not part of their evaluation criteria. But just wondering if all of us are getting a second view or do interviewers make up their mind on the spot.

No, not everyone did. If you look back further in this thread, there were a couple people who said they did not submit a supplemental essay.

FROM Sloan Admissions Blog: MFin Application Tips
The MFin application deadline is 3 weeks away! Many of you are in the process of completing your application. In addition to the application instructions provided on our website, we wanted to share a few tips and answers to some commonly asked questions:

  • There is only one essay question this year that includes three distinct points.  Please touch upon each point; your entire response should be 750 words or less.
  • Self-report your GMAT or GRE score in your application and request that the official scores be sent to MIT Sloan before the deadline of January 2, 2014. It is okay if we receive the official scores later in the admissions process.
  • The résumé template is a suggested guideline for format and content. We encourage you to use it.
  • For your 3 recommendation letters, please provide: one professional, one academic, and the third is up to you. Please choose recommenders who will speak strongly on your behalf and can give detailed examples in their responses.  If you are still in school, we strongly suggest that the third recommendation be academic.  If you are currently working full time, we suggest that the third recommendation be from a professional contact.
  • The year-long MFin program begins with a summer term, followed by fall and spring semesters. All students are required to attend Orientation the first week of July.  If you are an MIT undergraduate who has already taken courses 15.401 and 15.402, then you may be exempt from taking the comparable classes during the summer.
  • We encourage you to take advantage of the Optional Information section as a chance to distinguish yourself from other applicants. If you choose to use a multimedia format, you must host the information on an active website and provide us with the link. We cannot open files with Flash, from Dropbox, or anything that is password protected.
Best of luck to all applicants. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our Admissions Team with any questions. We look forward to receiving your applications.

No, but I just noticed that mine was viewed on my interview date. When I was waiting for my interview the Adcom came in and said, "Oh, you must be Dan, I recognize you from your video", which was a kind of a weird feeling.

The anticipation on Sloan is really killing me so much more than my other schools. If I get in, I'm basically just dropping all of my R2 applications.

I was interviewed and did not submit any supplemental essays. My impression was that it is best to only use the supplemental essays if there is something significant or unusual that you were not able to convey in the rest of the application, but that you shouldn't just submit one "for the sake of it." (Of course, my advice is completely non-professional, so you should do what you think is best for you.)
