I would expect WL movement to occur around the deposit deadlines....do we know when those are?

Has anybody got in touch with Adcom regarding the timelines of when can waitlisted people hear back?

from prior threads, late june to mid july. the chances are very slim with this many waitlisted folks.

You are assuming 59 total wait-listed people on this thread from R1 & R2 is a lot. They get over 2000 applications. Maybe there are only 59 people total on the WL. We would have a great chance then. I think the lack of posts this year is making this thread less useful as far as a gauge.

A few things:

59 waitlists out of 148 total known outcomes = roughly 40% chance of ending up on the WL given current statistics
To think that there are 0 WL out of the other approx. 2k applicants is ludicrous (come on - you're going for your MBA!)
Historically, McCombs has had an 8% conversion rate from the WL (according to GMATClub.com - https://www.mbadataguru.com/blog/)

Since we aren't adcoms, we have no idea how McCombs uses its waitlist. Perhaps they accept (total number of desired students/average yield) and therefore getting in off waitlist is next to impossible and only occurs when there is a year with lower yield. Either way, with only a 6% ding rate so far, the majority of those on the waitlist will not get an acceptance (however, I'm sure some will).

According to Bloomberg McCombs wait listed 729 last year. I would assume this year's numbers are much closer to that than they are 59.

Obviously there are more than 59 WLs. But basing ones chance on the WL on the number of people reporting a WL on this thread (at least this year) is not a good representation. Which is what I was pointing out in my first post. I'm glad to see that seagraham3265 picked up on my sarcasm before writing "To think that there are 0 WL out of the other approx. 2k applicants is ludicrous (come on - you're going for your MBA!)". Thanks though. This year is not going to be the same as previous years. They are going to get A TON of qualified applications from the oil & gas industry because of oil prices and layoffs. Many of those people aren't going to matriculate to McCombs. I have several friends in just that situation. They got into McCombs but have no intention of going if they get into their top choice. Many of them want out of Texas.

For your number crunching and speculation, I was dinged without interview in Round 2. I figured when I hadn't heard anything about an interview and wasn't really planning on coming back in here, but I saw you guys talking about there being no dings so I thought I'd contribute, hopefully for your benefit.

I just logged on for the same reason. I heard they don't give out much aid since the tuition is a bit lower than other schools to begin with, but you never know!

Okay, does anyone know if they give scholarships to folks accepted off the waitlist? At first glance, you would think the answer is no. But if you think a little more, you'll realize that they obviously give scholarships to the most deserving/qualified candidates. And it is precisely these candidates that perhaps choose higher ranked schools, freeing up money in the scholarship pool. Which means there should be some $ left in the bank to offer to waitlisted candidates getting accepted.

What do you guys think? This wait is putting my speculative mind in overdrive. Sorry in advance! :)

FROM Mccombs(Texas Austin) Admissions Blog: Hands-on Learning at McCombs: MBA+ Consulting Projects

The Dow Team, MBA+ Consulting Project, Fall 2014

The MBA+ Leadership Program connects Texas MBA students from all programs with thriving companies looking to overcome challenges through short-term micro-consulting projects. This past fall, Texas MBAs worked on 40+ projects with over a dozen major companies including Clorox, FABERNOVEL, Strategy&, OriGen Biomedical, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Big Red, & Dow.

“[For our project], we looked at venture capital investment trends in energy, transportation, healthcare, finance, and media/entertainment.  We then looked at how these investment trends were indicative of trends in the various industries and how FABERNOVEL can work with potential clients to address issues they may be facing in these changing industries.

I think that we had a great project experience. We each were able to learn a lot more about trends in industries with which we were not necessarily familiar, and the client was very easy to work with so we had a lot of opportunity to guide the final output and be successful.” – Matthew Cohen, MBA ’16, Team Leader, FABERNOVEL project.

Team Leader, Matthew Cohen (left) & the FABERNOVEL Team, MBA+ Consulting Project, Fall 2014

MBA+ projects are a great way to help students bridge the gap between concepts they are learning in the classroom and practice in the business world. Students are able to immediately apply what they are learning, as well as gain experience in a new industry or functional area.  They are also able to get an inside glimpse into companies they might work for in the future to get an idea of the company’s culture and vision.

On the flip side, companies are able to identify students who are a good fit for their internship and full-time positions.  It’s one of the earliest avenues for students to meet company representatives and practice their networking and relationship building skills. Since they are team-based, projects are also a great way for students to meet their classmates and expand their personal network. The MBA+ Program also helps students gain leadership competencies such as accountability, team-building, influencing, negotiating, conflict management, leveraging diversity, dealing with ambiguity, written and oral communication skills, problem-solving, decision-making, resilience, and more!

Just piggybacking here. Have any of you haggled (or plan to haggle) for a scholarship? I got a full ride to Olin, but I really want to go to Mccombs. Any opinions on the etiquette of calling the financial aid office and explaining the predicament?

Hi everyone, I just decline my admission offer to McCombs and give someone on the waitlist the opportunity to be accepted. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences on this forum. It has been a pleasure.
