I have a question for those who have already interviewed over Skype: do you know the name of your interviewer beforehand? Thanks.
Yes, my admissions co-ordinator (the one who would email you with the interview date and time) had given me the Skype ID of the interviewer. I obtained their name on Skype while adding them as a contact. Remember that you'd have to initiate the call too. It is mentioned in the instructions document sent along with the interview schedule email. Hope this helps.. Good Luck!

Bummer :( Sorry to hear that.

I've heard from many people in admissions that the interview is simply "another data point" they use in their "holistic" review process. Though being invited to interview in the first place must have meant you were interesting enough for them to want to see more of you.

Unfortunately you'll probably never hear feedback on your application, but it's possible that there were other things in your application that were weaker or tipped the scales the wrong way for you.

The best advice I can offer you is to reflect back on your entire application and try to address any weakness that you can see, then apply next year.

Can someone please copy the contents of the email when you were invited to interview? I was on WL without interview and have submitted an update 2 days back and today I got an email with subject (next step Cornell MBA) to schedule a consultation discussion with Director- Admissions. I am not sure whether it is an interview or not. Can someone please help here. Thanks

Content of email that I got : Please schedule a 20-minute phone consultation with me using the enclosed link. During this conversation, we can review your application profile and talk about some of the opportunities that may be of interest to you at Johnson. My team and I look forward to working with you throughout the application process.

If you have no intention of applying now or in the future, simply reply to this email and I will have your name removed from our email list.

Should that be the case, I would appreciate you letting me know whether your decision was due to personal reasons or if you've decided to apply to other programs.

I truly look forward to speaking with you and guiding you on this next important step in your career.

My subject was "Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management - Interview" and then it said congrats we'd like to invite you to schedule and interview and then it talked about Super Saturday. Yours does not sound like a typical interview but it definitely sounds like a great opportunity to talk with the Director and maybe make your case. From the "talk about some of the opportunities" part maybe they want you for 1 year or Cornell Tech or Executive MBA?

Just got the confirmation from Johnson ( was WL without Interview) and have been formally invited for interview.
I submitted the update to my application. Status changed on application site as well. Interview in 2 days.

Had my interview yesterday with Ann.
Nice and relaxed conversation, blind interview, although the adcom had prepared some questions regarding my application.
Be ready to answer these.
All typical questions such as, why an MBA, why now, why Johnson, how can you contribute to your classmates...
Questions on my background and on the industry I am currently working and the last question, which surprised me:
If I were to make three bullet points from your interview to the adcom, what would these bullet points be?
Anyway, I think I did well and I hope I´ll get to see some of you on campus next fall.
Best of luck to you all

Just completed my interview with Adcom member on campus. Very conversational and pleasant. As has been mentioned before I think the four big things that Johnson wants to know are: (1) Why Johnson (2) Is this your safety school or do you truly want to study and live here? (3) What are you going to do after the MBA and do you have a clear career progression and ability to get a job? (4) Are you personable and able to "fit" in with such a small tight knit group of people? (i.e. they just cannot take a risk on too many candidates because it could affect the experience more than other larger programs).

If you can address the above clearly and articulately you will do well in this interview.

Just my two cents.

Also, what a great program and community. Certainly hoping to matriculate there this fall.

Best of luck everyone.

I really doubt Johnson will send too many decisions out before decision day. You might be better off asking for a 2 week extension on your other school, or confirm at the other school, make a the deposit, and then forfeit the deposit if you change your mind or get in to another school that you would prefer to attend (this second method is frowned upon, but similar to what happens if you get in off a wait list).

Couldn't agree more or articulate it any better than that. I felt like they were looking for exactly 1-4 above. Well said.

I have a Skype interview tonight and was very surprised to know my interviewer is a 2nd year student. Just curious if that's common for Johnson. Does it mean they're not interviewing me seriously? Are there any people who've been interviewed by 2nd year students and accepted?

Thanks! :)
