Underdog alert!

Hi, Targetting ISB, and 1 year programmes.

10th : 78
12th : 62 (Science w/ Economics)
Grad B.E. from Bangalore - 56%
GMAT : 750

Total workex : 3 years, planning to apply in 2021. By the time of interview I'll have 4.
My entire workex has been in sales. I have worked my way up from B2C sales to enterprise sales for a Fortune500.
I have extensive sales experience, and thorough.
Also, there is a sprinkle of social service.

Co-curriculars : Have been playing football for the last 13 years, and still do.
Learnt Spanish language level A2

What's missing to improve my chances for Round 1 in Sep 21?

Hi shashwat8224,

Hope this finds you well.

The only visible red flag is the undergrad GPA; however, your GMAT score is way above the average at ISB and that will help compensate for the GPA and demonstrate your abilities to adjust to the demands of a rigorous academic program.

At this point, all you need to focus on is to keep performing at work; consolidate impacts that you can quantify in your essays, and conceptualize a framework that shows strong sync between what you have achieved and your goals in the future. Not sure how much you can strengthen your extra-curriculars in the midst of the pandemic but if there exists any chance, please do so. Rather than taking up new activities, see if you can take up a leadership role in what you are already doing; leadership both at work and beyond makes for a good talking point in essays rather than showing mere volunteering.

In case you wish to discuss your profile in greater detail, please do reach out to us.

All the best!

Hello shashwat8224,

Thank you for your post. Your GMAT is very strong, which will help make up for your undergraduate academics, which are quite low.

From what you have shared, it looks like strong leadership experience is missing from your applications. Naturally, business schools want leaders. If your sales role does not demonstrate strong leadership, extracurriculars are a great opportunity to do so. Look for an organization where you can step up or explore options to expand your role at an existing organization.

I am curious to learn more about your sales role and experience with social service. We work with folks in sales every year and would be happy to provide you with more guidance. Do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected] if you would like assistance putting together strong applications!

Good luck!

Hi AnujSheth,

Thank you for sharing your profile. Starting with stats, the average GMAT score for ISB is 710. I suggest you try to push your score 710+ to maximize your chances. Best wishes for your GMAT :)

On the work front, you have diverse work experience. This will help you to add diversity to your work profile. I would like to know at what position you are working currently and the reason behind the switch from healthcare to the electric vehicle industry and then again to healthcare. You will have to explain this in your essays thoroughly. Your startup journey will undoubtedly provide you with some amazing learning stories. Community involvement is good. You can talk about your interest in table tennis and your achievements.

Your post-MBA goals make sense and are aligned with your prior work experience. If you are open to suggestions, then NUS can be a great pick for you, considering healthcare a major choice (4%, consulting, tech, financial services biggest. Then real estate, manufacturing, healthcare at 4-6%) by students there.

If you need any direction/guidance over any aspect of your application and have any specific concerns, you can ask us on the forum Ask MBA & Beyond.

I can see gaps in your profile, and you are an older applicant. I would like to know your profile in length and find out the major hiccups in your profile so that I can guide you better. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile and give you my realistic assessment. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Let’s maximize your chances in Round 1 for fall intake

Cheers!

Hi AnujSheth,

Thank You for sharing your profile.

There are many excellent points in your profile:

1. Your educational background at both undergrad and master is very unique. Plus you have a top-level academic score in your undergrad. This makes you an attractive diversity candidate.

2. You have 1 year of international experience which is given good weightage in the ISB admission process.

3. In extra circular activities, you have district-level accreditation which is valued highly in ISB applications.

4. You have run your own start-up which is an exceptional achievement in your profile.

Based on the outstanding points in your profile a score of 680+ will be sufficient to get an admit in ISB if you project your profile effectively in the ISB application and interviews.

Please feel free to connect with us for a detailed profile evaluation.

Hi ,
Academics :
10th standard- 520 - 87%
XII standard- 876 - 87.6%
BTech - Electronics and Communication Stream. Percentage-68%
PGDM in Marketing and Finance . Percentage-3.8% out of 5.
Work experience- 10 years . 2.6 years in Hdfc bank, 7.6 years in PSB Union Bank of India.
Present position- Senior Manager
Role - Regional marketing department Head

Goals / objectives after ISB - To work for a consultancy firm which can provide me a sufficient space and freedom to provide solutions to different clients from different sectors. As I have an experience of 10 years in retail credit and also with sufficient knowledge that I would get from ISB, I hope I can bring value addition to the client firms in resolving their operarational, marketing and financial issues.
I am expecting that I would get 650 Gmat score.
I am happy to know the response on my profile .

Hi Harish,

Thank you for sharing your profile.

Your work experience is rich and you have a very interesting profile. But to get admitted into ISB you need to focus on few areas.

1. GMAT score: Given your work-ex, the GMAT score required for you will not be so high. The average GMAT score for ISB is 700+ because of higher GMAT scores of candidates with lower work-ex. A score of 680+ will be enough given you have handled such important responsibilities.

2. Why MBA? : Since this will be your second MBA you need to prepare a very good answer for "why MBA"

3. Career Transition: You need to highlight the value-added points from your rich work experience to your post-MBA goals.

Candidates with high work experience in finance and banking are highly valued in ISB. If you focus on good preparation of the above points it will become easier for you to get an ISB admit.

Please feel free to connect with us for a detailed profile evaluation.

Hi Asp112

Please provide some more context into your work experience - what are your daily responsibilities? what have been the key achievements? Please also provide some context into your career goals. While your CGPA is decent, and your GMAT may work given your industry background, it would be good to know more at this stage to evaluate a more holistic evaluation.

Your profile seems fine.
You would need a good GMAT score. Getting a 700+ score would ensure that all check-boxes are ticked.
After that everything just depends on how you present your experiences and learning in your essays.
