Bill and Lissy believed that if they were coached everyday and dedicated themselves to practice, their dream of becoming a professional skater could someday be a reality.

(A) No change
(B) their dream of becoming professional skaters could someday be a reality
(C) their dreams of becoming professional skaters could someday be a reality
(D) their dreams of becoming professional skaters could someday be realities

Please explain in detail why each choice is correct and incorrect.

Hi

I hope the answer should be "C". Below is my reasoning.

(A) their dream of becoming a professional skater could someday be a reality [Bill and Lissy are 2 different person, hence they can become professional skaters not a professional skater]
(B) their dream of becoming professional skaters could someday be a reality [Since Bill and Lissy are 2 different person, not a team, they would have separate dreams, hence used of dream should be incorrect.]
(C) their dreams of becoming professional skaters could someday be a reality [correctly used "dreams" and "reality" (there is only one reality not multiple)]
(D) their dreams of becoming professional skaters could someday be realities [There is only one reality, so use of realities is wrong]

the answer should be B .
1 .as bill and lissy are two persons which means plural nouns hence should be agree with same noun, skaters should be there not skater .
2. also they have the same dream so singular dream is fine .

i hope your doubts are clear .

thanks

I was about to explain the same to all, but you have very well explained this. Great work. :)

Same dream, so it should be dream. They are going to be individual skaters, so plural is required. Hence, B is correct.

Not sure why you think two people cannot have the same dream. Here both of them have the same dream that they would become professional skaters. So singular dream is alright.

It is not that Bill thinks that only he would become a professional skater (Lissy is not in the dream), and Lissy dreams that only she would become a professional skater (Bill is not in the dream): in such case they would have different dreams. But here the conveyed meaning is that each one dreams that both of them would become professional skaters. Hence the dream is the same for both.

Both Bill and Lissy have the same dream of becoming professional skater, so their dream. Clearly B it is
I'm not sure how there are only 4 choices instead of 5.
