For me, I felt that answer choice A was defining "drastic" as belonging to the gap, whereas answer choice B is using "drastic" to define the gap. B is the appropriate choice in this case. Hope that helps.

Can someone kindly help me with understanding the meaning of the sentence. Also statistics is the subject of the sentence in the 2nd part and so it should be followed by a singular verb right

There is a typo in the sentence; (I think so) indefinite article should not be placed there I guess (see marked it in red), otherwise I dont get this sentence structure
