Computer operating system software has become increasingly standardized. But when a large business with multiple, linked computer systems uses identical operating system software on all of its computers, a computer vandal who gains access to one computer automatically has access to the data on all the computers. Using a program known as a “virus,” the vandal can then destroy much of the data on all the computers. We are using common operating system-> because of that Vandal can have access to all the computers ->Vandal can use virus to destroy much of the data(not all)
solution is to introduce minor variations(don't need to change much) in OS.

With this understanding we can eliminate some options straight away:
B)- If a computer virus program is introduced into a business’ computer, all of the data on that computer will be destroyed.
passage is talking about 'much of the data not 'all of the data'
D)If a business does not have multiple, linked computer systems, its computers cannot be protected from computer viruses.
Last sentence says it is 'advisable' means there can be others ways also to protect them.
E) If minor variations are created in computer operating system software, it will be easier to access the data on the computers that use that software.
Passage is concerned about the security not concerned about ease of access
Choices we need to think more about:
A) If a business does not introduce variety into its computer operating systems, it will lose data on its computers because of damage from virus programs.
passage is talking about linked computers.It is not talking about stand alone computer

OUT OF BOTH TEMPTING ANSWER CHOICES A AND C
EXPLANATION:This answer choice may be attractive, but is incorrect. While it is possible that a business's failure to introduce variety into its operating systems would lead to loss of data, such an outcome is by no means guaranteed. Answer choice (A) is a Mistaken Negation of the reasoning used in the stimulus.
Answer choice (C) is a reiteration of the fourth sentence in the stimulus: if minor variations are introduced, unauthorized access to all computers will be virtually eliminated. The term "virtually" leaves open the possibility that not every single computer will be completely protected from viral invasion.
