Thanks bb for such a prompt reply.

I am targeting management consulting. Or PM/ operations roles in Amazon as plan B.

MBB is tough. I would still work hard to recruit. I would be happy with roles boutique energy consulting firms as well.

Congrats on your admits!

You definitely waited until the last minute eh? Lol!

Are you looking to stay in oil and gas post-MBA or are you wanting to pivot to a new industry?

Stay with the industry.

I will start my Master of Science in Quantitative Management at Fuqua in September but if you want to stay in Oil and Gas and live in Houston long-term then I would recommend Rice. Their alumni base is huge in Houston and I believe they are strong in the Oil and Gas industry there.

MBB is tough everywhere. Duke would probably give you more access in terms of total # of students going, however MBB recruits on-campus at UNC and McKinsey actually takes a lot of UNC students. Boutique consulting is ample. With the scholarship at UNC, and the fact that you won't miss out on getting face-time with MBB makes it a solid choice. Furthermore, Chevron, Exxon and a few others Oil/Gas also come to recruit at UNC. I think both Duke and UNC are much more national brands than Rice, however if you do want to stay in Houston I guess Rice would be recognized.

Hi woody93,

Thanks a lot for your input. Houston is not like my 100% preferred choice. I am flexible. But I am choosing Houston because of the huge presence of the oil and gas sector.

I would still recommend Rice. Although, Duke is T15 (T10 some years), their 2018-2019 Employer Report shows they placed 1% (4 graduates) into the Energy Sector with less than 1% (2 graduates) into Oil and Gas.

That said, their #1 employer hiring graduates last year was McKinsey and Co. They put a pretty big emphasis on consulting.
