Hey everyone, I would truly appreciate if you could give me an accurate evaluation of my profile

Nationality / Age: Italian/Romanian , 21 Male

Gmat Score: 690 (Q46, V39, IR7)

Educational background:
-Currently at the last year of bachelor in Economics and Statistics (Università degli studi di Torino)
-Erasmus+ Exchange student at IMT business school in France (6 months)
-Studied accounting and economics in high school
-Took part in an exchange program in Estonia with Lions Club

GPA: 3.70/4 (27.82 on the italian scale)

Work experience: 8 month experience in a local firm (quite big, over 700 employees and 160 million turnover) working part-time (6hr/day) as an accountant and analyst. I also have a letter of refence from the founder and current president of the company.

Language proficiency:
-Italian (surprised you? :cool: )
-English (Advanced C1, at the moment I'm preparing for TOEFL)
-French (Intermediate B2)
-Romanian (A2, never learned it formally)

Targeting MiM programs 3rd round of admissions for (although I'm open for suggestions): HEC, ESSEC, ESCP, Bocconi (International management) and INSEAD

Since I'm writing this, I also wanted to know what score I should be working for in regards to TOEFL.

And on a last note, I wanted to thank GMATclub for the amazing help during my gmat journey (god bless GmatNinja and Bunuel)

GMAT: Taking Shortly, but safe guess is probably 620 or 630. If I absolutely crush it maybe 650.

GPA: 3.2

Work Experience: 2.5 years working in Credit Department of Fortune 500 doing B2B collections, which has given me experience in AR and Credit Account management, ie. processing payments, customer outreach and relationship building, as I over see a portfolio of 30,000 accounts most of which are corporate chain customers.

Educational Back Ground: BA Double Major in Economics and German Language

Master Programs: Anything, MiM or MsF, and anywhere in Europe. I was thinking given my scores maybe WHU, EDHEC, etc... Bocconi is the dream, but extremely unlikely. Open to suggestions honestly.

Post-Masters plans: I'd like to stay in Europe and so I would like to get a degree that would allow me to do so. Long, long term I would like to return to school and get my MBA.

Appreciate any suggestions for schools/programs. Thank you!

GPA / Work experience: 8/10 GPA, 6.5 yrs of work experience , blend of technical development and product management in semi-conductor domain.

Educational Background: Btech in electronics from IIIT-Hyderabad

Master program(s) you are applying to?:
Have the below list. But I am not sure, whether my profile suits the masters cohort profile, having 6.5yrs exp and by sept,2021, it would be 7.5yrs experience.
Guidance in this aspect is welcome. Currently the programs I am looking at are:

GMAT 1: 600 (sad, but I didn't study enough and I'm confident I can get at least 660) GMAT 2: TBD (March 27)

GPA / Work experience:
3.46 GPA. 3 years work experience (while in school) at Bollore logistics as an ocean import agent and currently as a data analyst

Educational Background:

Some notes:
- Average GPA for my program: 2.7
- I have straight A's in every finance class and every accounting, statistics, and economics class
- Average GPA for most of my finance classes range between 1.7 and 2.3 (I have straight 4.0s)

- I am very well versed in capital markets and follow them almost 8 hours a day while juggling work, school, and GMAT studying
- Active day trader specializing in high risk growth assets; I am also very profitable (to the point that I have considered doing it full time and pursuing a masters later on in my life)
- I have plans to start a (hedge) fund right out of my masters with a close friend; someone who I trade with. We have access to funding
- When I finish my masters I plan on buying another property with my brother as a means for passive income. My brother and I already own a quadplex as an investment

Starting off your profile evaluation with your academics, I would like to say that you have a strong academic background. Your GPA of 3.2 not only showcases your academic prowess but also opens the doors to targeting any country worldwide..

Your GMAT on the other hand does fall on the shorter end. For the kind of schools that you are targeting, you’d definitely need to push your scores and score at least 650+ in your GMAT.

Coming on to your work experience, you have 2.5 years of relevant work experience in the field of finance, a trait that would be well revered by the admissions committee. However, you should be mindful of the fact that you’d be competing against candidates from big 4 companies which would definitely overshadow your brand name. To combat this, it is imperative for you to talk about the kinds of projects you have undertaken during your stint, with major learning takeaways from the role and the career progression in your career to highlight the quality of your experience and establish you as no less than a big4 candidate.

Further, on the note of extracurricular, you should be cognizant of the fact that schools tend to favor candidates with holistically developed profiles and a plethora of extracurricular activities. Hence you need to further build upon the same. You can do so by taking up some volunteering roles and activities with a local NGO or non-profit or by taking up certifications such as FRM or CFA. Extracurricular activities are a great way to showcase your caliber to utilize your theoretical knowledge and apply them in the practical realm. Therefore, you should definitely look forward to adding them to your profile.

Given your program choices, you have more than 2 years of work experience which makes you ineligible for the MiM program since it is an early career degree meant for students with 0-2 years of experience. However, you can definitely target the Mfin program but you’d need to showcase your inclination towards the field of finance. That said, you can target schools such as TCD, UCD, WHU, HHL, Mannheim, Cass, Warwick, Skema, Grenoble, EDHEC, etc where you have a good 60-70% chance of getting admitted.

Nonetheless, let's jump right into the evaluation process.

To begin with, you have a decent GPA score of 6.5/8 which will allow you to target most of the top-notch B-schools on the condition that you complement this grade with a good GMAT score of at least 690-700 with a quant score of 49-50+ since you are applying for a masters in finance program.

Here you have not mentioned any details regarding your extracurricular activities or participation that hold equal importance as schools are looking for a holistically developed profile. You should thus focus on highlighting how you went above and beyond in your endeavors and how you will be a great value addition to the school. To give you a brief idea of how to go about with this, you can talk about the clubs and associations you were involved in, the teams you led, relevant certifications you undertook, and most importantly your volunteering activities along with NGOs. This part of your profile will basically highlight your soft skills paired with the socially responsible aspect of your personality which can ultimately vouch for your ability to be a great future leader.

To begin your evaluation from your academic background, I’d say you have a pretty good gpa score of 8/10 which showcases your academic prowess. Having said that, your GMAT score of 630 is a bit on the lower end which is why I would recommend you to retake your test and aim for at least a 680 as it will allow you to target most of the top notch B-schools, even those under your radar.

Coming to your work experience, you have an extensive duration of 6.5 years of work experience, which will always work in your favour as there is no work experience cap limit for a specialized masters. Moreover, you have experience in the field of technology and product management, a field in which you are seeking your masters admission. This further strengthens your profile as the admission committee of top B-schools tend to favor applicants who have had experience in relevant fields. Having said that, you haven't given any information about the companies you have been working in. Irrespective of its presence, what truly matters is the quality of your work experience, thus you need to focus on highlighting why you chose this company, what kind of projects you undertook, what were your inputs and what skills you developed. This will also showcase how you are voyaging on a path towards your goal while portraying your dedication and consistency. This aspect of your profile is very important for the simple reason that you’ll be competing with applicants who have worked or interned in the big four companies like KPMG, EY, DELOITTE, and PWC.

Hello guys, be honest with me I am kinda freaking out. Am i screwed for the Baruch Admission for the MS in Finance program. Do you think I should attach my GMAT?

Background:

Program: MS Finance
GMAT: 390 (clearly, the low point in my application. I am considering not attaching my GMAT since it is optional what do you guys think )
GPA: Accounting and Finance from a U.K. Russell Group uni with an Upper second class (2.1) which is around a 3.2 gpa in the USA
Work experience: 2 years Big 4 Audit and Incoming summer analyst in Corporate Banking here in NYC as well at a large well known Investment Bank
Nationality: American
Age: 27 at matriculation
Gender: M

I can't afford to retake the GMAT due to using my salary to take care of my parents atm. I had to scrape together money for weeks to take this one and seeing as I **** up my only option is to not put it in or attach it and hope my undergrad or work experience help me.

Also do you guys know any other colleges that are still taking applicants? I wanted to apply to only Baruch but I am worried I might get rejected now.

Hi,

If it's optional, probably best not to include it. I guess the important thing to keep in mind is that Baruch is known for being quite quant-heavy. So you should try to illustrate this elsewhere in your application.

A 2:1 accounting and finance degree + work exp in audit is pretty good. Definitely shows your quantitative ability. In your essays, it might be worth highlighting a few examples from work of when you have showed your critical thinking and quantitative aptitude (as this is essentially what the GMAT is supposed to test).

In terms of other colleges, I think you could look at European schools. Most of them have different application stages with staggered deadlines (though most of them do require either the GMAT or GRE). I can't be too sure about all US schools, but from what I've seen, most of them just have one hard deadline in late Dec/early Jan.

Another option (if you're willing to wait) is to apply next year.

BBA GPA: At the moment of applying 7.7 (at the moment of finishing my degree 8)

Hey everyone, I would truly appreciate if you could give me an accurate evaluation of my profile

Nationality / Age: Italian/Romanian , 21 Male

Gmat Score: 690 (Q46, V39, IR7)

Educational background:
-Currently at the last year of bachelor in Economics and Statistics (Università degli studi di Torino)
-Erasmus+ Exchange student at IMT business school in France (6 months)
-Studied accounting and economics in high school
-Took part in an exchange program in Estonia with Lions Club

GPA: 3.70/4 (27.82 on the italian scale)

Work experience: 8 month experience in a local firm (quite big, over 700 employees and 160 million turnover) working part-time (6hr/day) as an accountant and analyst. I also have a letter of refence from the founder and current president of the company.

Language proficiency:
-Italian (surprised you? :cool: )
-English (Advanced C1, at the moment I'm preparing for TOEFL)
-French (Intermediate B2)
-Romanian (A2, never learned it formally)

Targeting MiM programs 3rd round of admissions for (although I'm open for suggestions): HEC, ESSEC, ESCP, Bocconi (International management) and INSEAD

Since I'm writing this, I also wanted to know what score I should be working for in regards to TOEFL.

I think your application is very strong for several of the universities you have mentioned. I applied round 1 and accepted a scholarship for the MSc Finance at Bocconi. I had similar characteristics as your self with respect to GMAT score, GPA and work experience. the only program that could potentially be a challenge is HEC which has an average GMAT score of just above 700, one of the reasons I didn't apply there, but I still think you have strong potential to attain a place at any of those programs!
