How in the world are you Guys scoring a 740! My God, so it's either a 740 or be a Military officer or have diverse experience with a 690..too much competition !

Yes, I agree competition is throat cut, but that's how it is when you are from a community that has the capacity to dominate the world. Since all of us are part of it, standards are high. But, talent is not just reflected in high GMAT scores or diverse profiles. Rather, it's the clear thought process and practical goals of life that makes your application stand out. I am not going to say here that one shouldn't aim for the best GMAT scores. But, at the same time, understand the requirements and limits. IIMs not just look at profiles with high scores, they look for credibility and dedication in your resume as well. Be clear, outspoken and straightforward in your essays & SOP. Once shortlisted for interview, cherish at your achievement so far and with this feel face the interviews. Be confident and respectful. Don't underestimate the panel and speak your thoughts but in an orderly fashion. Don't be stressed at an unexpected question. Face it with grace and answer to the best of your ability. In the end, be grateful to have travelled so far in the process and wait for good things to happen. Regarding good GMAT score, there are lots of resources available on GMAT club, look for them, use them and benefit from them. Good GMAT score is a lot dependent on practising the right stuff, finding your weakness and improving upon them. And the ways to do so can be found on various Forums here. Sorry for the long post; many helped me out during the process, so I just felt giving back to the community. May the Force be with you!!

Any comments, feelings, advice to share?: For me, the application process at IIM-A was the most exacting one. I would suggest being ready with your essay outlines and core MBA application questions in advance so that you are able to come through strongly in the short writing period for the essays. Prepare for the unexpected in the interview but remember that it does not determine everything and your scores and profile also count.

Any comments, feelings, advice to share?: In the application process I was forced to reflect on my journey a lot and that helped me as a person as well as an applicant. One of the realisations is that IIMA is merely a facilitator on my journey and I would have kept following my aspirations irrespective of their decision. So my advice is to go for a fit, rather than tags and brandnames. As I have came to know more applicants, for example, I know a candidate who would benefit more at C rather than A.

 Any comments, feelings, advice to share?  In my humble opinion, even though the industry diversity you bring into the cohort is important, what is more important is how you highlight this in your application, essays and interviews. You should present clarity and logical reasoning in your thought process, especially when it comes to what you want out of the PGPX programme and what you plan to do afterwards. This is something I have heard time and again from the alums that I have interacted with and I could sense this from the interview as well. Also, be prepared to present your case under the most random circumstances. While the extempore is a very important part of the interview process, you should be prepared to be questioned on literally anything that you have mentioned in your application.

Having given it two attempts, one thing that I am sure of is that all the aspects of the applicant are important and need equal attention. A good GMAT score, a crisp and impactful application, sincere and coherent essays and a good interview. It is very important to be clear in the thought process as to why we need the MBA to move forward in our journey and that should reflect in the application/essays and when asked in the interview. It helps to get connected to alums of PGPX as they help us understand this process. Also, for the interview, it helps if we are well-read and know what is happening in and around us.

Any comments, feelings, advice to share?: Be yourself, its difficult to fake through interviews, people at the other end are very seasoned to see through made up stories and anecdotes. Someone who knows you well can help you a lot in giving feedback on how you come through during an interview or in your essays. Lastly, be patient, its a long process and hence its okay to be frustrated a bit, but it will be worth the grind!
