Hey buddy,

Congratulations on the offers. Both are awesome schools. If I were you, I would choose the Cornell offer.
1. I feel Cornell & NYU both would give you access to same placements. (Please re-verify the employment report and talk to some alums).
2. Having completed my MBA and almost broke from it, trust me the financial burden is not an easy feeling. 80k is not a small amount. Plus NYC can be very expensive (add also the non-school expenses such as rent, partying, traveling, socializing etc. which can be substantial).
3. NYU does have better bragging points than Cornell but personally I feel 10 years down the line when you are placed in MBB or any such, nobody would really care if you are from NYU or Cornell. All would be in the same rat race, :-). If it were IB though, then probably NYU would have an advantage.
4. Also consider Ithaca vs NYC. Ithaca is great for Ski lovers but doesn't have the same city feel as of course NYC. Also, non-campus life can be dull. Again, I really don't care about this point but it seems a lot of people do.

In hindsight, I would have personally liked to decrease the financial burden from an MBA. Yes, it gives you great opportunities but the average payback time can be very long (for some schools, even 10 years). You can do a quick calc on this too.

All the best.

Idem with this! You simply can move freely without much of financial burden and it will help you to think outside the box after graduation. :)

I was in a similar position a while back (and was very close to attending Johnson) but ultimately opted for Stern instead (for reasons #1 and #2). I think it comes down to the following:

1. Career goals. Both schools are not consulting powerhouses in all honesty. I'd say Stern ranks in the bottom of it's peer group for consulting, although this is partly do to primarily placing into the NYC office. Johnson placements have been looking better since about 2018, but I imagine that those numbers will revert to the mean as MBB scales hiring back.

2. The type of experience you are looking to get. Are you a fan of skiing and breweries? Or do you want to be an alcoholic in the city instead?

3. Your financial tolerance. For some, 80k + 10-20 in housing is substantial. For other it's not. Tangentially - will the value of Stern be worth around 500k more over your lifetime?
