Did anyone go over the word count? I am 100 words over the count for essay 1 and can't afford to delete another word. There is just so much to share.

ah, seems like I have few more hours to tackle this major problem.

I'm over by about 25 words on Essays 1 & 2. I heard an AdCom officer say that as long as the essays are under 600 words each, then it's fine. However, that may have just been her personal opinion. I guess what I'd say is take a critical eye, and make sure you're not rambling or giving unnecessary detail.

Also, if there's any where to go over the word limit, it would be on Essay 1, since that essay is all about why you love Tuck.

Barely managed to squeeze this one in by the 5PM ET deadline. Best of luck to everyone applying!

Oh geez. I didn't even realize that there was a time deadline. Luckily, I got mine in about 2 minutes before 5.

Tuck also doesn't take AMEX. You would think that b schools would accept AMEX for the amount of on-campus recruiting that American Express does. :-D

Fingers crossed for everyone.

25 words only? My essay 1 is over by 70 words, but I think Tuck doesn't have a hard cut off of 500 words, just a mere suggestion.

Yep, Tuck just "encourages" 500 words per essay.

I kept all essays under 500 words; didn't even realize it was a soft limit. I definitely could've used another 50 words or so.

Guys,

My recommender just called me and said that she accidentally gave me "strong support" and not "champion" in the recommendation. How much do you think it will hurt my application or if she can email admissions to get it fixed?

Just learned that one of my recommenders submitted a few hours after 5. Is this going to be an issue?

I don't think so. But, it would be nice if you checked it once with the adcom. You may drop them a mail or if you wish to stay anon, call them.

Is this one of the things they ask in the rec portal? I think if your recommendation letter itself is strong you shouldn't have much of a problem. And no, don't ask her to send a mail. That will surely lessen her credibility.

I actually think that if it's truly an honest mistake on her part, then she needs to call the admissions and get it fixed. Cuz remember Adcom will not think of it as a mistake rather than a fact that she doesn't fully support you. Plus if your rec is strong and rating is not a champion, then that sounds like applicant wrote the rec himself

hmm interesting take. I think people with 'strong support' would also be looked at favorably and there is not a great lot of a difference between the two.
[edit]: Also, I think, it will be difficult to justify it as a 'mistake'.

Obviously, this is very subjective (and speculative) and the OP needs to decide for himself/herself.

You don't have tell them what the mistake is, just ask them to re open the recommendation for you.

That looks like a slightly better idea. :)

Thanks guys for the input. I will ask my recommender to get it corrected. I agree that "strongly recommended" is just as good and she mentioned that she gave me top ratings on most of the attributes, but just to cover all the bases, the highest overall rating would be better.

Relax, same thing happened to me (although my boss was only 1 hour late), I freaked out, emailed admissions, and thay said it would be fine.

Also, when I saw it was 5pm and I hadn't received an email confirming my CSQ had been sent, I went straight to my boss and "kindly" asked if he was experiencing any technical difficulties :-D . He told me that in the email he got from Tuck, there was only reference to date (Deadline 10/9) but no reference to time (5pm).
Don't know if that's true or if he just didn't bother to read the whole thing, but if that's the case, I'm sure Tuck accepts CSQs at least until 11:59pm.

I thought you had only 2 choices (Tuck and Yale). :-D Just kidding...

I'm interviewing on 10/21, the following Monday... Will arrive at Hanover on Saturday, though. Anyone here going to be there?

Hey Graham,

Don't worry. Yesterday, one of the Tuck admissions directors told in a chat session(on a different website) that they generally give two day grace period for the recommendation submissions. Make sure the reco is sent asap. All the best.

Best,
