I took all 6 of the Offical Mock.I got 720 on my first try. I scored either 750 or 760 in the remaining 5. I felt great about myself. I thought I was going to crush the real test.

Then... I found the real test to be much more difficult on both Quant and Verbal. I got 720 on my first real attempt. And it went downhill since. I got 710 and 690 on my subsequent attempts in a span of 1.5 months.

I was super frustrated.

Then I studied another 1.5 months. And finally got a 750 in my fourth attempt.

Good luck to you.

Glad it turned out well for you in the end though, 750 is a brilliant score!

Looks like the reattempts were rushed a bit. But what do you think was the difference in your prep during those 1.5 months when you went from 690 to 750?

Thank you!

After my first attempt, I overly focused on Verbal. Then I got a better Verbal score but failed my quant. For my third attempt, I focused on Quant and probably neglected verbal a bit. Ultimately what failed me was my verbal on the third attempt. But I don’t know how I got such a low verbal score in that third attempt.

I guess I had a more balanced preparation for each of Quant and verbal for the fourth attempt.

Hi there,

From my experience, the Quant section on the real GMAT test could feel more challenging than the GMATPrep.
The key thing for you would be practicing pacing on both Verbal and Quant - if you run out of time under a relatively stress-free environment, it could be worse under pressure. As mentioned above, the real quant could be more challenging than GMATPrep - what would you do if you come across a question you cannot solve? You should take a few more GMAT Prep tests and pay attention closely to your timing & pacing.

Wish you best of luck - keep us updated

Hi variantguy,

I’m glad you reached out, and I’m happy to help. First off, 730 is a nice practice test score, especially because you left the last quant and verbal question blank. Regarding that issue, to ensure that you do not make the same mistake again, you need to be more disciplined, so you are answering the last question with at least 15 seconds left on the clock. In that case, I do not envision a scenario in which any answer choices will be left blank.

Regarding how to improve by 20 points to reach 750, you’ll have to spend some more time finding and fixing your remaining quant and verbal weaknesses. To do so, in addition to taking practice exams, you may consider engaging in some focused practice in both quant and verbal. For instance, let’s say you are practicing Number Properties; answer 50 or more questions just from Number Properties. When you do dozens of questions of the same type one after the other, you learn just what it takes to get questions of that type correct consistently. If you aren't getting close to 90 percent of questions of a certain type correct, go back and seek to better understand how that type of question works, and then do more questions of that type until you get to around at least 90 percent accuracy in your training. If you get 100 percent of some sets correct, even better. Number Properties is just one example; follow this process for all quant and verbal topics.

As you do such practice, do a thorough analysis of each question that you don't get right. If you got a remainder question wrong, ask yourself why. Did you make a careless mistake? Did you not properly apply the remainder formula? Was there a concept you did not understand in the question? By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to efficiently fix your weaknesses and in turn improve your GMAT quant and verbal skills.

Lastly, as many have stated, if for some reason things don’t go your way on your upcoming exam, you can always study some more and retake once you are ready.

If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out. Good luck!

Hi ScottTargetTestPrep,

Thanks for helping out as always! I am definitely planning to keep a 15-20 second buffer for the last question in each section.

I have been doing timed sprints in both Quant and Verbal, and while in Verbal I have been following the focused method of practice similar to what you've advised above, in Quant it's been more of doing mixed sets. I will switch to the same method for Quant as well. (Though I have made it a point to always spend sufficient time on analysis, since the start of my GMAT prep).

Thanks again for your suggestions and wishes. :)
