Hi All, thank you so much for taking the time to evaluate my profile and thinking.
I am interested in applying to top MBA programs this coming fall and enrolling in the Fall of 2016. Here is a basic overview of my profile.
Basic Stats:
27 year old male
University of Notre Dame Bachelor of Arts (2010)
Majored in Philosophy
3.08 Undergrad GPA
Undergrad GPA low because I essentially suffered through depression for the first two years. Held a 3.5 GPA last two years.
Earned two MA's: One in Liberal Arts (3.4 GPA at St. John's College), the other in Curriculum and Instruction (4.0 GPA at University of Mississippi)
GRE score: 165 V, 168 Q (both 95th percentile -- 760 GMAT equivalent)
Goals:
Target is to work in management consulting after MBA. Want to get into a top 15 school. Ranked in order of desirability: Harvard, Northwestern-Kellogg, UVA-Darden, Yale, Michigan-Ross, Texas-McCombs, Georgetown-McDonough
Other Background Info:
Taught 10th Grade English (3 years, it will be my 4th year while submitting applications). Did not do TFA, but did a similar program (Mississippi Teacher Corps) that is, by percent of applicants admitted, more competitive than TFA.
Showed increased responsibility by, after two years, being elected to train and manage new teachers for my MA program. Also, in my current school district, elected to a district-level leadership board for academics.
Outside work activities mostly have included helping out at the school. Coached multiple sports, tutored

Ethnicity: URM (African-American and White)
Lived in USA my whole life

Hey there,
Thanks for the post and I noticed you made a post about being an URM and how that plays in. Let's talk about both, shall we?
There's one thing I am not a huge fan of in your profile and that's your undergrad GPA but that's...it. And even with that, I completely understand the circumstances and your last 2 year GPA trend speaks volumes about your ability to pull through. Beyond that, you have an awesome GRE, you're part of a selective program, you have two useful Masters with strong GPAs in each, you're involved beyond just the classroom in terms of both impact (the leadership board) as well as making an impact (coaching). You have a really strong profile!
What I'd like for you to focus on is your story. Consulting is a great goal to have but you need to play in the education thing so you can do one of two things. On one hand, shift your story to ed tech or something along those lines. Ed tech companies LOVEEEE ex-teachers. And ex-teachers with an MBA? Golden ticket, my friend. Or you can talk about going to consulting to "learn business" and eventually moving to ed tech. Either way is fine but have education involved, right? On a comforting note, you've totally got a shot at a top 15 run!
As for the URM aspect - yes, it plays a role. Yes, it a plays a significant role. It can make acceptance decisions. It can make scholarship decisions. It is a card you have in your hand and it is a valuable one. Not quite a trump, but a dang good one! So on that note, definitely consider the Consortium - you can more efficiently apply to more programs and open up the door to a lot more funding too! But it isn't a must. A tale of two clients - one who didn't apply Consortium who got $80K to Booth and another who did and got a full fellowship to Stern. So it's not a must but it can be helpful to have the Consortium at your back.
