Hi,

Looking for feedback on what schools are realistic for my profile which is as follows:

GMAT: 760 Q51 V41 IR8, no AWA yet

Age: Currently 25, will apply Round 1 2016, will be 27 by the start of the MBA program

School: Top 3 school in the Philippines, BS in Business Management, minor in Finance

Leadership: Course representative for my course, which has the largest population among all the courses in my school, Finance Head for the School of Management Night (celebration event), where we raised funds for the school scholarship fund

GPA: 3.06, top 20% of my class (of a particular concern to me because of the different grading system locally vs. in the US while using the same 4 pt scale)

Work Experience: 2.5 years in a mid sized local bank, first as a management trainee and then as a Corporate Banking Account Officer. Finished top of my management trainee class and was promoted after my first full year of service in a Corporate Banking position. In January 2014, I moved to a boutique M&A advisory firm as an Associate.

Extracurriculars: Nothing really outside of CFA. I have been tapped by one of my superiors at work to help out in the next edition of Collegiate Finance Competition run by the Finance Executives Association of the Philippines. Now that I don't have the GMAT to worry about, I'm also looking into writing part time about local sports.

Other: I've passed level 1 and 2 of the CFA exams and am enrolled in Level 3 for the June 2016 test. Will hopefully have the 3rd exam passed by applications next year. I plan on centering my application around my work experience as an investment banker in a developing country (we work with mid market firms that big investment houses don't typically pay attention to but have the most need for capital). My short term goal is to get into PE or Consulting with the long term goal behind it being to get experience with best practices at top firms in order to bring back that knowledge to businesses in the Philippines, whether through consulting, investing, or entrepreneurship.

Hey dude,
Well with a 760 and coming from the Philippines (not many candidates from there) you are already in pretty good shape :). I think Top 10-15 schools should be totally fine.

I am however a bit worried about your lack of ECs/Volunteer work. So you better get moving and add ONE Community Service and ONE EC at least like right now in preparation for next year!!!

Don't worry too much about your GPA. Explain the difference between the systems, and concentrate your energies on all the rest.

Best,
Jon
