Hi there,
I am dealing with a relatively unique situation (I believe) and would appreciate your insight into what the next best step is.
I work for a small company and about 2 months before applying to Harvard I was moved into a more senior role ahead of finalizing our discussions on the role title and my compensation package (we moved forward on good faith). About a week before submitting my application, we finalized both the title and the compensation package verbally - and as such, I used that title and salary in my application.
Fast forward a couple weeks later, after careful consideration I opted to postpone my new salary plan to the start of the new year because of concerns that moving to the new plan would impact my bonus payout under the existing plan. This means I also remain on my original base salary, which is $10K lower. I still have the title, but the new compensation plan won't kick in until January 1.
Based on this I have 2 questions:
1) how serious of a mistake is this? It was obviously not intentional but with hindsight I realize this at best looks stupid, at worst, intentionally misleading.
2) how do I best address this with the admissions team? I want to be honest with them but also not make this a huge distraction from the rest of the application.
I would appreciate your thoughts!
D
