Hi all,

I'm a marketing professional at a top tech company (think IBM, SAP, Cisco, etc.), and have worked here for 3 years with one promotion. I'm due for another promotion soon. I went to Emory for my undergrad, majored in Political Science, and got a 3.80 GPA. I got a 730 on my GMAT. I'm located in Seattle.

For ECs, I've been the President of my company's corporate-sponsored Toastmasters for 1.5 years. Before that, I was Toastmasters VP for one year. We have 50 people in our Toastmasters club, and they elected me Prez.

I'm also part of a research group for an educational tech organization on the side, and given presentations/guest lectures for our findings across the country (we were invited by the Harvard Graduate School of Education to speak on campus, in addition to Stanford's Graduate Education School).

I'm aiming for M7/t16. My goal post-MBA is a f500 corporate marketing job with an analytics focus.

How would you judge my ECs? Thanks.

What schools are you applying to? For top schools, I would rate your ECs as okay, but not more, so as already suggested, you would ideally need to address the impact you have had in those leadership roles as well. Have you done anything that exceeded everyone’s expectations, for example? If so, mentioning anything like that at all will help make those ECs more impressive!

Good luck!

Well, so far so good, but there's a big difference between Top 3 MY and S16. I'd say from this quick look into your profile, S16 would be reasonable...

To find out if you are competitive for the rest, I'd really need to understand more about you and your profile, especially to find out what is unique about you.
What do you do? How quickly have you advanced? Do you have any leadership? What are your great achievements? Do you have notable community service or extra curriculars?

All the best,

Strong leadership experience in your Toastmasters EC along with good progression. Shows nice long standing commitment here. You're research group involvement is also interesting and seemingly pretty unique. I would say depending on your involvement level aka how many hours/week these things are taking up will influence this. This tends to be a question in most applications, this is used to gauge just that. With both of these examples your impact on the organizations will be the most important so make sure to connect the dots there.

Do you have any undergrad ECs? Schools like to know your undergrad AND current engagement
