What should be my appropriate short-term and long-term goals

Hi needs some advice regarding my short-term and long-term goals. My profile details are mentioned below:-
Age:29 Years
Undergraduate Degree: B-Tech & M-Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT, Roorkee
Work Experience: 6 Years in a Mining Central PSU (Coal India Ltd.)
Nature of work:- General Management, Operation and maintenance, Manage a team of 100 employees and responsible for maintenance and automation of weighbridges, security measures for theft prevention
(such as GPS,CCTV,RFID etc.), material procurement
Academics:- CGPA:- 8.18/10 (3.272/4), GMAT-730
Target Country for MBA: USA, UK & India

Post MBA I want to make a pivot from Mining Industry and enter energy sector. I also wish to gain some exposure in renewable energy. My ultimate goal is to one day become CEO of a leading energy/ Renewable energy company.

For application purpose is my short-term goal appropriate? Pls suggest what other options do I have post MBA.

Though Mining & Energy may have some processes similar, as overall Sectors they are more different than similar. Additionally, your reasons for a switch are not clear or compelling. Given you are at the threshold of years of WE (next year your WE will already be 7+ years, which means all other things being the same, your chances would go down), I would strongly advise you to get good mentorship help for your stories, goals and overall application, whether it is from a B-School graduate senior/ friend or mentor, or someone else competent enough.

You should plausibly explain why you want to work in the energy industry. In addition, you must show that you have done thorough research on opportunities that are realistically within reach immediately following graduation. You may have to tweak your goal according to the school you apply to and companies that recruit in the particular geography. For example, for an Indian B School, you may speak about working at a startup or avant-gardes in the EV sector. Several EV companies hire MBA grads out of top Indian B Schools. Similarly, if you apply to an MBA program in the EU, understand the pipelines for energy enthusiasts. I suggest you also look at industry-specific leadership development programs in the short to mid-term such as the Siemens CEO Track, where you would be able to leverage your prior experience in mining sector. Reach out to the admissions offices of schools to understand what other leadership programs in the energy sector recruit from their cohorts. LBS, INSEAD, and other good schools in the EU have special tie-ups for this pipeline. You could also consider consulting roles in the short term. A strong brand association would enable you to break barriers and enter the energy domain faster.
