The answer is C (c+e) Of the given options, this is one with values of same sign being added (hence the resultant will have greater absolute value) Since the values are greater in this option than option A.
==> On the straight line, the greatest absolute value is |a+b|=|-1.8+(-1.3)|=3.1.
Therefore, the answer is A. Answer: A

So basically we should take proximity distance given in the line as true ? .
*Edit : Even if we take doesn't c + 2 max value = 99999 + 0.5 or 2.9 + 0.9 ? which is greatest. than a + b whose maximum value is 1.999 + 0.999 = 3 ? figure is confusing a bit.
Which absolute value of the following is the greatest?
A. a+b B. b+d C. c+e D. c+d E. b+e
well!! for me , figure is quiet confusing...
can any one help!!
That is the reason why Q is 700+. In normal scenario with correct figure, this would be just 600 level.
Even if you figure out Correct figure, why C is not better than A????

HI Chetan!!! well, i thought of the solution in terms of distance theory of the modulas...mod(a+b) is the distance of a from -b...that ways....b which is less than zero automatically goes further from a as compared to distance calculated for any other option....although i did not make precise calculation. Hope I was thinking on correct lines....
MUST ADMIT FIGURE IS SUPER CONFUSING...and that helped in NOT making precise calucations:)
