I solved by keeping in mind some percentages.
1/8 is 12.5%, so 7/8 is 87.5%
1/11 is ~9%
Adding them, you almost get 100%, which is 1. Multiplied by 2 = 2.

Or, \(\frac{\frac{63+8}{72}}{\frac{1}{2}}\)

Or, \(\frac{\frac{71}{72}}{\frac{1}{2}}\)

Now, the Denominator can be considered as 1, so we are left with -

Or, \(\frac{1}{\frac{1}{2}}\)

Hence, the answer must be (A) 2...

Multiplying the fraction by 72/72, we have:

(63 + 8)/36 = 71/36, which is about 2.

Alternate solution:

If we approximate 1/9 as 1/8, then we have:

(7/8 + 1/8)/(1/2) = 1/(1/2) = 2

Answer A

Since we have to find the closest value
let's take 1/9 as 1/8

now = 7/8 + 1/8 = 8/8 = 1

=> 1/1/2 = 2

Slightly confused by this question as:

7/8 + 1/9 = 57/72

57/72 * 2 = 114/72

3/2 = 108/72
2 = 144/72

So I went with B as the answer is closer to 3/2. Have I missed something?

\(\frac{7}{8} + \frac{1}{9} = \frac{63}{72} + \frac{8}{72} = \frac{71}{72}\), not 57/72.
