Is xy > 0?

(1) x^2 > 0

Which means x can be POSITIVE or x can be NEGATIVE, also we do not know anything about y =====> Hence (1) is Not Sufficient

(2) xy^2 > 0

Which means x is POSITIVE, however, this still does not tell us if y is positive or negative =====> Hence (2) is Not Sufficient

Now lets combine (1) & (2)

We know that x is positive and still we are not aware of y is POSITIVE or NEGATIVE.

Hence, Answer is E

Is xy > 0?

(1) x^2 > 0

(2) xy^2 > 0

Solution:

Statement 1: no iformation about y. and x can be +ve or -ve. Insufficient.
Statement 2: xy can be +ve or -ve. Example x =-3 and y=3 or =3 and y=3. Insufficient.

Combining,
We dont get any new information.
Therefore it is E

Statement 1. x^2 > 0, it means x could be any number except 0. Insufficient.

Statement 2. xy^2 > 0, it means x must be > 0, but we don't know anything about y. Insufficient.

Combining the two statements: we get that x > 0, but we still don't know anything about y. So we can't say whether product of x and y will be > 0 or < 0. Insufficient still.

Hence E answer
