At a certain airline, the cost of airfare to London has increased by 20 percent. If the cost of airfare to Paris has decreased by 20 percent, the cost of the reduced airfare to Paris is what percent of the cost of the increased airfare to London?

So we have percentages of increase and decrease in relation to the original price of the airfare. The question is asking: (Reduced airfare to Paris)/(Increased airfare to London).

(1) The increased airfare to London is $80 less than the decreased airfare to Paris, and the original airfare to London was $600 less than the original airfare to Paris.

Ol=Op-600
1.2Ol=op-80

Two equations with two variables, solve for one variable and plug into other equation.
SUFFICIENT

(2) The increased airfare to London is of the original airfare to Paris.

Use smart numbers.

and I believe that this statement is missing a number, but the percent that it gives shouldn't matter as long as it links the two airfares which will allow us to set up an equation which results in a ratio.

Statement (2) is missing something.
The increased airfare to london is a certain percentage of the original airfare to Paris. Statement 2 needs to be be filled with the missing info.

Any percent related problem become simple once equation is formed.

You have 1.2x one side and 0.8y on the other side.

0.8y=z*1.2x
We need to find z basically.

Statement 1:
1.2x=0.8y-80
x=y-600
solve for x and y.
SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2:
1.2x=3/4y
Now if you notice z = 0.8y/1.2x
And using the above equation u can find y/x ratio which is enough.
SUFFICIENT.

Answer: Option D
