Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of applying to MBA programs in 2020. My work history consists of 3 jobs with a gap between jobs 2 and 3.
Has anyone had either more jobs than is typically recommended (> 2) and or a gap like me? I'd love to hear your approach/thoughts on compensating for these potential flags. Bonus points if you already applied/got accepted into a program.

Hi there!
We have definitely worked with successul clients who have been in a similar situation. Of course every applicant is different but I think if you are thoughtful and handle it well, that alone won't be a dealbreaker. Some tips based on what I've seen work well:

We have definitely worked with successul clients who have been in a similar situation. Of course every applicant is different but I think if you are thoughtful and handle it well, that alone won't be a dealbreaker. Some tips based on what I've seen work well:
- -Wait to apply until you have at least 1 solid year in your 3rd job
-Try to arrange one of your recommendation writers to be someone from your 2nd job, so you can show you left on good terms
-Reflect on your reasons for the job changes and how each job built off one another/what you learned, and try to reflect those reasons and learnings in your career goal essays (or if asked directly why you left)
-Write an optional essay explaining the gap, the circumstances of why you left the 2nd job, and what you did to remain productive during that time (see our optional essay guide here: https://shop.mbamission.com/products/mb ... says-guide)
-Potentially err on the side of safer short-term career goals, like a career path immediately post-MBA that builds off your current role but still warrants an MBA. If you say you want to make a major career switch post MBA, schools may think you lack consistency. You can be more ambitious with the longer-term goals.
-Lastly, be completely transparent/honest with your employment dates. Schools can verify those later through an employment verification process.

If it helps (and I should've asked in my previous post), my number of employers is 3 but my number of jobs is 2 (same role but in very different parts of the same industry). Not sure if this makes a difference.
I love your point of having one of the recommendations come from my previous employer. I have someone in mind, but I am concerned that this person might've forgotten everything but the more general highlights of my career. Thus, I was leaning more towards a recommendation from one of my current clients who can speak with more detail and can provide a perspective my supervisor cannot.
In your opinion, will it be more valuable for me to ask for that 2nd rec from my previous employer anyways, or should I go forward with a recommendation from one of my current clients, given this particular part of my background?
