There’s nothing like “the best” or “the perfect one”.

It all depends about who you feel will work best for your particular application.

You can ask about their previous admits, how many students they take in, how will your communication be, how your approaches to each part of the application be... so on.

Talk to a few consultants, share your profile and you’ll figure out.

You can also check about them on forums like GMAT Club or Reddit.

IMHO, being sure of the consultant's capability and building a sense that you will establish a good and trustworthy working relationship with them are the two most important things you should ascertain. The engagement requires that you work very closely with your consultants, and they become your sounding board throughout the application cycle, so this trust is crucial.

Talk to them, find out their process, their success stories and what unique value and expertise will they bring to your applications.

Hi there!

Aiming for Harvard and Stanford (the absolute pinnacle of the M7) is an exciting journey, but because they reject hundreds of perfect scores every year, a bulletproof, unique narrative is what ultimately moves the needle.

It is incredibly smart of you to prepare before scheduling your free consultation calls. Here is a quick, scannable guide on what to look for and the exact questions to ask.

1. What to Look For in a Consultant

• Bespoke Storyboarding over Templates: HBS and GSB spot "templated" essays a mile away. Look for deep, personalized brainstorming, not just basic grammar editing.
• A Dedicated Senior Partner: Avoid large firms that pair you with a salesperson for the consultation, only to hand you off to a junior editor later. You need a single mentor from school selection to final interview prep.
• Demographic Nuance: Your consultant must understand your specific professional and cultural background to help you find your unique "edge" in a highly competitive pool.

2. Questions to Ask on Your Free Consultation

• "Who exactly will be working on my application?" Ensure you are paired directly with a senior consultant throughout the entire process.
• "What is the biggest hurdle I need to overcome for Harvard or Stanford?" A great consultant won't just flatter you to make a sale; they will give you a transparent, strategic diagnosis of your profile gaps.
• "How do you approach Stanford's *'What matters most to you and why' essay?" Listen for a deep, investigative process rather than a generic questionnaire.
• "What does your school-specific interview prep look like?" HBS and GSB interviews are notoriously rigorous. Look for intensive mock sessions that replicate the real thing.

About Us (GyanOne Universal)

If you are researching premium firms, we would love to be on your radar. GyanOne is a Ranked #1 boutique consultancy in the world in 2026 with a top-rated presence right here on GMAT Club (with 1,700+ Kudos and over 1,800+ helpful posts).

• Elite Track Record: Over 18+ years, we have helped 5,000+ applicants break into global M7, Ivy League, and top European programs (including Stanford, Wharton, Kellogg, INSEAD, and LBS) with massive scholarship wins.
• Direct Expert Mentorship: You work directly with our founders and elite B-school alumni (like Rishabh Gupta, MIT Sloan, and Swati Gupta, our Managing Partner and lead interview coach). No middlemen, no junior hand-offs.
• Deep Storyboarding: We are known for our rigorous, "No-BS" approach. We challenge your thinking to pull out your most authentic, impactful stories.

We would be glad to do a comprehensive, transparent deep-dive into your profile. Feel free to book a free consultation directly through our website (gyanone.com) or drop us an email at [email protected].

Wishing you the absolute best of luck with your HBS and GSB aspirations!

Any reviews on StoryCrafters Consulting - Joel & Team? Considering hiring them but hardly any reviews online. One review mentioned working with Adam, a team - member but nothing more on GMAT Club as well.
Anybody has worked with Story Crafters / Joel etc. and can share their experience or DM for a chat?
