x^2 - y^2 = (x + y)(x - y)
St1: x and y are even integers.
Let x = 2; y = 0 --> Not divisible by 8
Let x = 2; y = 2 --> Divisible by 8
Not Sufficient
St2: x is even --> Clearly insufficient as there is no information about y.
As demonstrated in St1, the two statements combined are still insufficient.
Answer: E
