As the question stem is fairly simple we can directly move on to Statements. Easiest way could be to solve it through substitution

Statement 1: from this statement if x=2 & y=1, then X^2>y^2 but if x = 2 & y = -3 then in that case y^2>x^2. Hence insufficient

Statement 2: This statement does not tell us anything about y. we only know that x is positive. Hence insufficient'

Combining 1 & 2 will also give different results for x =2 & y =1 & x=2 & y=-3. Hence insufficient

So, Option  E
