MODIFY the question stem.. is x^2 < y^2 ? Means is |x|<|y|? Or is x^2-y^2<0.....(x-y)(x+y)<0 Now it is given that y0 So 'is (x-y)(x+y)<0 ?' becomes 'is x+y<0?'. (a) if both x and y are positive ..NO (b) if both x and y are negative. ..YES (c) If x>0 and y<0 , we will require to know the exact value of x and y to answer (1) y > 0 Now x>y, so x>y>0.. Case (a) above....NO...Suff (2) x > 0 So both case (a) and case (c) possible Insuff A

If x=1/2 and y=1/4 then statement 1 is not sufficient. No where the question mentions that x and y are integers. 
Please help!
