If you’re looking for faster date of passport appointment, choose other districts, not main city.

There’s one caveat here. At Port of Entry you will stamped with dates that usually encompasses your passport validity. However, the officer may restrict it to passport expiry date.

Tatkal appointment slots are available almost every day (especially smaller cities). Like you fill the form today and you can go in tomorrow.
I applied and got my passport to me in 3 days from the day of appointment. Just make sure you are keeping all documents ready.

So if the validity thing isn’t a problem during the interview, and the visa’s granted for 5 years, I’ll keep the renewal for after the visa interview

So will get my renewed passport by the time I reach the states, and shouldn’t have a problem at the port of entry
