Hi there,

Academic achievement is a small part of anyone's application. You need to give more details to make a realistic judgement.

Anyways, considering GMAT score alone and your work experience, the GMAT score is on the lower side for colleges like IIMA/B/C and ISB. The chances of getting an admit at GMAT 640 in these colleges is low, though not impossible. So ideally you should get into a 670+ bracket to give yourself a fair chance at the top 4 colleges. But you can have a good chance at IIML or IIMI. You can also explore options at IIMU and other colleges like S P Jain etc.

Hope this information helps. Feel free to register for a free career counseling session if you have further queries and we can have one on one discussion.

Hi,
Could someone please help with my profile evaluation?

Age: 24
Gender: Male

Qualification and Scores:
Ranked among top 3 in Secondary and Higher Secondary School
B.Tech Chemical Engineering from IIT - 9.42 GPA (Top 3 Percentile)
CFA Level 1 candidate
GMAT - Not attempted
Research Scholarship during undergrad and Rural Merit Scholarship for pursuing Undergrad

Work Experience :
32 months work ex as Business Development Officer at IOCL

My tasks till now have involved working from the market entry of a cleaner fuel alternative to its retailing. This involved holding multiple direct discussions with various stakeholders ranging from various ministries to municipal commissioners to regulatory authorities as well as financial institutions. As a subject matter expert, I am currently a part of managerial level discussions that involve the Chairman as well as the Petroleum Minister in future roadmap creation activity for a Government initiative. Currently, I also lead the team which is working towards revamping the data management portal for 3 Oil Manufacturing Companies (OMCs): the team involves 30 odd officers combined from all OMCs.

Also in collaboration with MOPNG, I had headed the publicity plan for a pan India Govt initiative aimed at strategically targeting tier 1 and tier 2 cities for increasing market penetration of the alternative clean fuel.

Major initiatives: Designed the temporary database responsible for MIS creation for Ministry from scratch, which has lead to the idea of the current in-progress portal.
Designed a complete training module for the induction of officers in the newly formed department.
Managed a team of 8 officers in past.
Reached milestone of 2000 tons of product sold across India.
Promoted once (expect to get promoted to Assistant Manager by next year)

Extra-Curricular:

I have worked on multiple CSR initiatives focussing on solving major problems like river pollution near pilgrimage sites, sanitary pad machine setup for access to women at affordable prices as well as biogas plant installation in parts of North India for provision of free food in community kitchens to 2000 villagers.
Have been a part of the Company's Business Development Cricket squad
At present, I am also preparing for Trinity College Grade 1 Piano Exam
During College I have been a coordinator for various events as well as winner in multiple case study events.

International Exposure: Full funded 3-month Research Internship at one of Germany's top universities.

Post-MBA goals: Work in a Management Consulting firm focussing on providing clean energy solutions to large enterprises.

My target colleges are M7 and I was planning to appear for GMAT by August end but due to the GMAT waiver by Sloan I am planning to give it a try this year in Round 3. Please advise accordingly.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

First of all, sorry for late reply.

Let us bucket your strong points and weak areas. Starting with strong points, your academics are really outstanding. The extra curriculars are better than most of the candidates. International exposure is an additional attraction in your profile. The driving down point is your less work experience.

This less work experience and age can in fact work in your favour. Our advise, don't rush into admission cycle. Rather concentrate on getting a very good GMAT score as you have the potential to score high GMAT. In parallel, work on your applications to make your profile stand apart. A good GMAT and application will put you in a position to get admitted in top 3-4 MBA programs of the world.

You have the potential to get into the best of the college and you must work to realise this potential completely. Get a good GMAT score and prepare an extraordinary application. Give yourself a time of 5-6 months and then unleash.

Job at PSU can sometimes become "non-rewarding" and you should channel your preparation in a positive way. Our best wishes for your preparation if you have not already cracked MIT!!

Do contact us if you want any help.

Hi PSUTOPRIVATE,

Having total 8 years exp.
Worked 1 year in Global Logic, Gurgaon.
Qualified a national level exam and now working as a Permanent employee in National Informatics for 7 years in a IT Project.

B.Tech from GEC, IPU, Delhi with 70% in 2012. 10th and 12th - 70%, 70%.
Married and have a 2 year kid.

I haven't taken GMAT yet. Confused whether to take and apply for Ex-MBA ? Will it be beneficial at this juncture ? Read some negative replies that Government employees do not get easy placement at the mentioned colleges. If get placed, what will be average package of such colleges for such like my profile.

I want to apply for IIMA, IIMB and ISB. What chances do I have?

Please evaluate my profile and suggest?

Hi Nirmesh83,

Thanks for sharing your profile.
You have rich experience and decent academics.

For IIMA/B/C, a score of about 670+ will be desirable. For IIML, you can aim with a score of around 650. For MDI, score of 580 is on a little lower, still its doable.

Our suggestion - 1) concentrate on scoring above 650 in GMAT 2) Target round 2 (round 3 is not desirable) 3) Start preparing for your applications and interviews as you would like to compensate for any shortcomings in GMAT (2/3rd of total marks is for applications and interview)

Also, your post MBA goals will define your prospects in these colleges. If you can share your post MBA goals then it will be better.

Thanks. Hope it helped.

Hi mimoh,

Your concerns are very genuine. These doubts are among all the candidates with profiles similar to you. But, you will be pleasantly surprised to know that every year around hundreds of candidate with similar nature of queries and doubts compete for MBAs and most of them do end up living their dream.

You have completed the B Tech in 2012. Its not "too old" profile for these MBAs. As we write this answer, at least 5 candidates with work experience more than you are applying in these colleges through our help. and two of them have kids. There may be others whom we don't know.

The point being, this is very normal to have these doubts but they should be treated as passing by thoughts. You should not base your career choices on some unconfirmed data. The real data says that you can and you will gain tremendously out of MBA "even in this stage".

Having said that, as you know, every person is different. What you want from life is more important than "what is the trend". Placements are tougher than counterparts in private sector. But isn't that obvious? They have to shift/change role and position. You have to change sector also on top of that!! But by no stretch of imagination, the placements can be said to be bad. Now, lets talk about data. Even in colleges like A, B etc, every year around 5-10% students remain unplaced. And if you look at the profile of the candidates remaining unplaced, its mostly from private sector.

For the packages for your profile, its not an easy answer. Profile specific placement figures are not disclosed by colleges. But, definitely, you would be getting a package of 20+ even in worst of the case.

For the colleges that you have mentioned, you would need a GMAT of 670+.

Hope it helped. You can register for a free discussion with a mentor on our website, if you wish so!

Hi crazyphoton7289,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

You have got excellent academics and GMAT score. Your work experience is rich and diverse.

Based on the information you have shared, your chances at IIMA PGPX and ISB are very bright. At IMD, your work experience is little more than the cohort they generally admit, so it would be a little difficult to get an admit. For NUS and Oxford, your GMAT score is good enough for a strong candidature.

But GMAT score and work experience years are just indicative of the strength of candidature. Your achievements in workplace, your extra curricular activities, your career goals define your profile better than academic marks and GMAT scores. Hence, you should build your application keeping those points in mind.

Hope it helped. Thanks.

Hi PSUTOPRIVATE,

I have improved my GMAT from 690 to 700 for this year.

With a work experience of PSU, do you think this will be enough for IIMA in round 2?

I have worked in IOCL for 7 years in sales. My undergraduation is from NIT warangal with CG 8.62. I have average extra curriculars.

Hi Anchit123,

A GMAT score of 700 is a decent score for IIMA.

You have good academics and work experience. In fact you should definitely apply instead of waiting one more year as return on GMAT may not be proportional.

Work hard on your applications and prepare well for the interview.

Best Wishes!

My 10th marks were 84 percent and 12th were 74 percent. I did my integrated degree in Engineering and Msc. maths form BITS goa with a CGP of 7.43. Do I have a chance for ISB or FMS and how much GMAT/ GRE score will I need for the same.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi anuragupadhyay,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

The information you have shared is only limited to work ex years and marks, based on which a genuine assessment cant be done. Still, contrary to popular belief, there is no "perfect profile". Everyone is equally capable of getting admitted in MBA colleges.

You have decent academics and the work experience is very varied. It all depends upon how you present your profile to admissions committee and how you defend your points in the interview.

Since you are in the preparation mode, do aim more than 700 GMAT score. Once you are satisfied with your GMAT score, then the choice of college can be finalized accordingly.

Hope it helped. You can register on our website for further discussions if you wish so.

Hello Psutoprivate,
Came across your channel today. Must say that you guys are doing pretty impressive work. I request you to kindly evaluate my profile.

Academics
10th: 93%
12th: 79%
B.E: 70.99%
B.E in Mechanical Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering( Now DTU)-2013

Work experience
Maruti Suzuki India Limited: 13 months (Production Engineering/Industrial Engineering)
ONGC: 25 months (Drilling Engineer)
Indian Railways, IES: 26+ Months and continuing (IRSME)

Looking to write GMAT next year and will be working with Railways all this while and would be applying for 2023 batch.
Would like to work post MBA in India only preferably in Delhi NCR. Would love to Consider colleges like IIM A,B,C for executive programs and ISB from India. Would also like to explore options from US,UK and other European Business schools like Harvard, Wharton, Haas, MIT Sloan, Booth, Anderson, INSEAD, HEC, Said Oxford , NUS etc.
The only criteria being that I would like to work in India only in the long term.
Kindly evaluate the profile and the prerequisites for admission to these schools. Also please help between IIM and ISB as I would be in 6-7 yrs of work ex when joining any B school.
Does a foreign degree help in getting better jobs in India as opposed to Indian B schools?

Thanks

Hi ashish22ies,
Thanks for sharing your profile.
Lets come to the point.

1. If you would like to work in India post MBA, then do MBA from India. In Indian job market, IIMs and ISBs sell, not the foreign universities.
2. There is not much to choose among IIMs and ISB with 6-7 years of work ex. All are equally good.
3. Your profile has variety of work experience. But marks and work ex years don't define your profile. The quality of work and extra curricular matter more. So, if you can register on our website for a free session, it will help you better to understand your chances.
4. Target GMAT > 700.

Hope it helped.
