Achieving farm animals or achievement of farm animals is wrong. So the answer is A or C.

In A "as once thought to be" is wrong I suppose. Left with C.

Between A and C, I will go with C.
C) A consistency... that was... thought to be - correct use of verb "was"
A) a consistency... as once thought to be - missing a past tense verb making it unclear what we are referring to.

Isnt C wrong...'were' instead of 'was' for the compound subject: consistency of quality and production...were??

C
cos A sounds like the manufacturing process used to achieve "consistency of quality and production in farm animals".

vineetgupta,

The subject here is consistency, so the verb should be singular, "was". We don't care about anything that follows the "consistency" because "quality and production" can be easily omitted from the sentence w/o changing its meaning. Achievement of consistency that used to be limited to manufactured goods is really what we are talking about.

Makes sense?
