Please suggest why question 3 has A as its answer?
I thought its B as clearly stated in second last line. Some aspects are treatable.

Please suggest why question 3 has A as its answer?
I thought its B as clearly stated in second last line. Some aspects are treatable.

Official Explanation

3. It can be inferred from the passage that at least some Alzheimer’s research

Difficulty Level: Hard

Explanation

The author lists two studies that focus on proteins: the work with misfolded protein fragments and the new technology that provides a “better look at oligomers, proteins thought to cause Alzheimer’s disease.” Choice (B) must be eliminated because the text says only “may be treatable” in relation to a single method.

The correct answer is (A).

Easy to read, but got all the wrong answers for questions... Please provide explanations.

Official Explanation

1. With which aspect of Alzheimer’s disease do MOST papers mentioned in this passage deal?

Difficulty Level: Medium

Explanation

All the papers, except the one on mitochondrial dysfunction, which suggests treatment, focus on methods of detection and diagnosis. Even though the word cause is also mentioned in the passage, thereby suggesting choice (E), that paper also focuses on detection.

The correct answer is (B).

Nice passage got all correct but took 7 minutes (includin 3 readin ). Below is my explanation .

1. With which aspect of Alzheimer’s disease do MOST papers mentioned in this passage deal?

(A) Prevalence
(B) Diagnosis - Straight forward ans . All the methods of how to detect Alzheimer is mentioned .
(C) Progression
(D) Treatment
(E) Causes

2. The passage suggests all of the following ideas about Alzheimer’s disease EXCEPT:

(A) a sense of urgency is implicit in all new and ongoing research into the disease. - Reject - (refer lines Alzheimer’s disease, the leading cause of dementia, continues to be the focus of intense study around the world. Nevertheless, a cure continues to elude scientists, as research continually churns up, inspires hope with, and then slowly inters seemingly endless causes,)
(B) the history of Alzheimer’s disease is littered with the corpses of old ideas. - reject - refer lines 1)A roundup of research papers published during a single, one-month period in 2014 yielded far-ranging and disparate results.2)amyloid clumps that have been previously associated with Alzheimer’s disease,3) at oligomers, proteins thought to cause Alzheimer’s disease.
(C) some research efforts in the past have focused on amyloid clumps. - reject -lines - amyloid clumps that have been previously associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
(D) there may be multiple observable indicators of the early stage disease.reject (mentioned all over passage)
(E) causes and manifestations of the disease are most likely various and multiple.-no supportin lines for this .The passage is focussed on how to detect Alzheimer the causes or manifestations are not mentioned anywhere.

3. It can be inferred from the passage that at least some Alzheimer’s research

Reject options that are neutal /irrelavant /weak inference (v v v indirect /long infrences)

(A) is now focusing on specific proteins rather than amyloid clumps. lines - amyloid clumps that have been previously associated with Alzheimer’s disease. - give us idea that now the focus has been shifted away from amyloid clumps.
(B) has uncovered methods for treating some aspects of the disease. -REJECT no method for treatment has been given.
(C) has determined that the human eye is the primary site of diagnosis. -REJECT multiple diagnoses mentioned.
(D) has repudiated (DENY THE TRUTH) the usefulness of information gathered from misfolded protein fragments. - misfolded protein fragments. have been accepted and old theory has been discarded .
(E) centers on comparisons between cellular activity and everyday machines. - reject out of context

With the number of dementia patients now at some 26 million and expected to quadruple by 2050, Alzheimer’s disease, the leading cause of dementia, continues to be the focus of intense study around the world. Nevertheless, a cure continues to elude scientists, as research continually churns up, inspires hope with, and then slowly inters seemingly endless causes, correlations, diagnostic methods, and possible cures. A roundup of research papers published during a single, one-month period in 2014 yielded far-ranging and disparate results. Tissue degeneration in two regions of the eye, as detected by sophisticated imaging techniques, may reveal early stage Alzheimer’s disease. Misfolded protein fragments, which lead to amyloid clumps that have been previously associated with Alzheimer’s disease, can now be detected in cerebrospinal fluid. A new kind of vibrating scanner, whose motion is like that of a sewing machine needle, is giving scientists a better look at oligomers, proteins thought to cause Alzheimer’s disease. Mitochondrial defects observed in Alzheimer’s and other diseases may now be treatable. Eye behavior during reading, including fixation on new information and slower eye movements, may be an early indication of Alzheimer’s disease.

Summary: Alzheimer’s disease, (leading cause of demetia) cure is still not available. Eyes can reveal early stage disease.Abnormal Protein fragments leads to amyloid clumps which is linked with alzheimer disease can be detected in cerebrospinal fluid. New kind of scanner gives better look of oligomers proteins which are thought to cause AZ. Mitochondrial defects are now treatable. Eye behavior can also be used to detect early stage AZ.

1. With which aspect of Alzheimer’s disease do MOST papers mentioned in this passage deal?

(A) Prevalence
(B) Diagnosis
Mostly it talks about diagnosis.
(C) Progression
(D) Treatment
(E) Causes

2. The passage suggests all of the following ideas about Alzheimer’s disease EXCEPT:

(A) a sense of urgency is implicit in all new and ongoing research into the disease.
With the number of dementia patients now at some 26 million and expected to quadruple by 2050---> this shows sense of urgency
(B) the history of Alzheimer’s disease is littered with the corpses of old ideas.
a cure continues to elude scientists, as research continually churns up, inspires hope with, and then slowly inters seemingly endless causes, correlations, diagnostic methods, and possible cures --> corpses of old ideas
(C) some research efforts in the past have focused on amyloid clumps.
Misfolded protein fragments, which lead to amyloid clumps that have been previously associated with Alzheimer’s disease
(D) there may be multiple observable indicators of the early stage disease.
Mentioned in all over the two paragraphs.
(E) causes and manifestations of the disease are most likely various and multiple.
Correct

I don't think q2 is hard.
The passage nowhere says that there are multiple causes for alzheimer's which makes E the answer immediately.
