There is a post on the previous page also asking about low GPAs. A few round 1 admits had non stellar undergrad records, so it's not an automatic deal-breaker. Definitely address it in the optional essay. But rather than spending time giving excuses (which you said you don't have anyway), highlight how the adcom can be confident that you can now handle b-school.

during the information session in Shanghai, I asked the lady (sorry forgot her name..she is a member of the admission committee and sort of in-charge of the financial aid part) a similar question: I graduated from a 2nd tier university with a low GPA (below 3.0....), will it be a disadvantage? (surely yes..) and if I got a relatively good GMAT (i.e. 750), will it be a "compensation"? She said:"well, yes, if it is your only disadvantage."
So I thought I did not need to explain it.. but it seems maybe I'd better to? but it's a fact, not due to any accident so I can explain...
Also, I am thinking if I'd better put "82.xx" out of 100, instead of GPA 2.9X ? (both are shown on the transcript)..
If you're even slightly worried about it reflecting poorly on your application, I would err on the side of caution and address it in the Additional Information essay. Even if it's just to say something like you've learned from your past experiences and you will do X, Y, and Z to improve in bschool. With a lower undergrad GPA, regardless of work experience, you still have to show you can handle the academics of an MBA program.
@cloudy218 -- I would put either 82.xx out of 100 or your 2.9x GPA, whichever form the online application will accept. As you said, both forms are listed on your transcript so adcom will see it anyway, and you could also address that in Additional Information too.
