I second Denny's notion that everyone I've met who has accepted has been exceptional. Not that I was expecting anything less, but I've been blown away by the quality of my future classmates.

Im a RD 1 admit who is matriculating! Definitely met great classmates at Winter Welcome. Just wanted to share some insight:

My buddy interviewed late in Rd 2 and was told that they were a bit behind and might not be calling everyone prior to the 5pm deadline. So my guess is that for some admits it will be email then call tomorrow. I remember I was stressing about it too. I ended up leaving my cellphone at home so I can get through the day without staring non-stop at it and ended up with a call on my office phone! I went crazy in the office!

Good luck to all! Big day!

Thanks for the update. Hopefully they'll notify those that aren't in the know about the delay.

the rumors are that money is really tight this year (or competition for it is really intense). Yales rise in prestige/rankings means that people are still accepting admission irrespective of $$.

Congrats to those who've gotten in, its exciting to be the class that will be the first to graduate from the new building and is likely to see SOM rise to Top 8.

The problem with the whole Yale is rising philosophy is that there are so few alumni compared to most other schools both because its a young program and because thy have small classes. So fr me, since prestigious and large alumni network is central to achieving my goals, Yale falls short and will take a while to make up ground. Also, I've found their career services to be lacking. It's still a great program, but you've got to maintain rational thinking when decidin which school is the best fit.

No reason to get testy and call names. This forum is about thinking through big decisions, and I just laid out my opinion in thinking about my options.

You're failing to account for the larger Yale alumni network which is actually a big draw.

Yale SOM doesn't operate in a silo, insulated from the rest of Yale University, the way other business schools might. I think that's one of its biggest strengths and gives you greater a claim to the larger Yale alumni network.

That's a good point, an depending on what field you're going into could be really favorable. For consulting, which is what i plan to go into, the main draw of Yale is location, not its recruiting or alumni.

I agree with faro in that the larger Yale U. community is also excited about SOM, especially because there's so much crossover. There are at least 10 dual Forestry/MBAs, a couple MBA/MFAs, some MBA/M.Arch's, and then the requisite MBA/JD and MBA/MDs in every class. Another encouraging sign is that some of the big gifts for the new building came from Yale College alumni. Ned Evans (who the new hall is named after) gave $50 million (I think), and he's a Yale College alum. I've also heard stories about folks getting plenty of help from other non-SOM Yalies in getting jobs, internships, or just going out on informationals.

So, yes, the alumni base is small, but I think they're probably pretty active, and from my experience at a firm with multiple SOM alums, they are extremely interested in helping new alums out. And then there's the rest of Yale... which is almost dreamy when you think of name recognition... But, this is clearly biased by the fact that I've already matriculated.

One other thing - I know for a fact that the calls have started, (a reliable source close to the adcom told me).

But the big time question: Has the party started?

Yes, got a call a few minutes ago. I'm in the EST in the US. Thrilled and honored to be invited to join the class of 2014.

Best of luck to those waiting.
