I have tried couple of other products. What I found unique about Magoosh is that even when you are practicing problems you will always find yourself in front of a screen and a timer, so you become mentally prepared to solve questions with 2 mins limit. Something the proved invaluable when I took the actual test.
Magoosh dashboard is your best friend. There you can monitor your progress and analyze your performance by topic and difficulty level.
Additionally, I found Magoosh questions to be a bit harder than the actual exam which I thought was pretty helpful because they train you to spot patterns and discover the underlying issue very quickly
It was in June 2015 that I decided that I must appear for gmat exam in this year. But I was confused regarding the prep classes that I should take since the cost of prep was a major factor influencing my decision. A colleague of mine suggested me to purchase the premium package of magoosh. I purchased it for just around INR 6500 and started studying from Sept 1st week. I had scheduled my exam for 9th Oct and this was my 1st attempt. I knew that it was too ambitious of me to think that I could prepare in just a month's time, but I did anyway and I got a score of 730 with Q49 and V41. I am happy that the effort, time and money I invested paid off well :)
I got a 680 (Q-44, V-38) on my first GMAT and was really disappointed as I had put a lot of time in my studies and had gotten a 720 (Q-47, V-42) on my last GMAT prep practice exam. I enrolled with Magoosh only because of the 50 point guarantee but never expected to get at least a 730. I just took the test and got a 740 unofficial score with Q-49 and V-42. My Quant score has never been that high and I owe it all to Magoosh! The practice question are so well put and really makes you think about how to approach the official questions correctly.
As a non-native looking to give the GMAT for the first time, I was on the lookout for an effective, affordable online course to help me cross the 700 barrier. The $99 Magoosh premium course seemed like a perfect fit, and after touching 720 on my first attempt, I am glad I picked the course.
The course is designed around a number of audio-visual lectures focusing on specific concepts and strategies required to master the nuances of the test. The question pool is also great for practice, and the questions are a decent approximation of the ones I eventually saw on the actual test. The video explanations for every question were concise and eye-opening.
The staff is helpful, and any query I had was addressed promptly via email. Also, the 3 month study schedule designed by the Magoosh team allowed me to streamline my studies.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Magoosh premium plan for its value for money, and especially to those who learn better using an audio-visual medium.
Good Lectures and huge Questionbase. However, the Video Explanations are not always in support of the Lectures and might even contradict them.
I felt that it was a good way of studying but unforunately it did not help my score as well as expected. Therefore, I requested a refund which was given to me promptly and without further questions. Also, the support in general is quite good as they always responded in time.
All in all, Magoosh Premium is a nice but not perfectly developed training course with good service features. If you want a better course which might help your score better, you have to pay a lot more though.
When considering the wide variety of sources for GMAT exam preparation, I have to admit I was not quick to settle on Magoosh's online-only format. I have always been the student who sat in the front row of class and took diligent notes, but that never seemed to provide me with enough review of the material to feel confident when an exam inevitably came around, so I decided to roll the dice and commit to an environment where lessons could be repeated as many times as I wanted, until the material really soaked in - and boy am I happy I did!
Magoosh offers three or four study guide variations that help you plan the 1-3 months leading up to exam day; from here, you can easily plan what video lessons to review, which topics and question types you should practice, and using their super intuitive "Custom Practice" configurator, know that you're only going to be given questions relevant to the material you've studied (which really helps prevent low morale from answering questions incorrectly, even when you were never taught the material in the first place).
Overall, although I am admittedly not a great test taker, Magoosh helped me secure a rock solid score on my first round, all while I balanced a full time job and relationship. I'm incredibly appreciative of the service the team at Magoosh provided, and for ~$100, I honestly can't think of a better, more well rounded alternative.
Go for it and good luck!
I would strongly suggest the magoosh quant section for anyone who wants to improve his/her scores from 48 to 50/51. I scored 49 in my first gmat attempt. I then enrolled for magoosh which guaranteed a 50 point improvement. The course material had few of the questions that I faced in the actual gmat:) In my next attempt I was able to increase my quant score to 50.However, I had a decrease in the verbal score. I cancelled the scores and sent a screensnap. That was all that was needed for the refund. they refunded the amount and kept my account open so I could practice if needed. In my third attempt I was able to score the coveted 99 percentile:) 760. 50 in quants and 41 in verbal. The quant content(the questions, short cuts etc are good). the verbal content is above average but cannot be compared to the quality of the quant section. This is partly because the length/quality of verbal questions were different from the ones I saw on the actual gmat.
This course is a great value for money. For $99 you cannot ask for more. W.r.t to the support from tutors, there was never a delay in answering my questions. The team will email you within their 24 hr SLA.
Gave my GMAT on 2nd Aug, 2015. First Attempt.
Score - 710. Q49, V36.
Preparation time : 3 months, 3-4 hours a week.
I used the Magoosh GMAT prep since it seemed to be the cheapest prep option around. The video explanations were intuitive and the lessons were quite clear in explanation.
Also, the score predictions were spot on since I received the same combination of scores for my last two GMAT mocks on Magoosh.
My scores on Official GMAT test prep were :
1st attempt : 700
2nd attempt : 710
I hoped to up the game on D-day, but for some reason could not do the same, especially in the Quant section where I was pushing for a Q51. I did not expect much in Verbal, the scores were consistent with what I had been achieving with Magoosh and other prep material. In all, a decent and happy learning experience.
The team is super enthusiastic about giving advice and answering queries as evidenced by their active blog. Does not seem to function as a corporate which I think other test prep providers might. Love that part about the MAGOOSH team!
I would recommend Magoosh to anyone who is looking for value for money in their GMAT test prep material.
Cheers!
I signed up for the Magoosh GMAT Premium course and have truly stumbled across a treasure chest which offers a truly comprehensive set of resources to prepare for a competitive exam
Few things which I truly liked about the course are (1)The large number of questions available on the question bank covering difficulty areas ranging from easy - very difficult (Truly a confidence booster for a person wanting comprehensive coverage of all topics tested)
(2)The magoosh software also comes with a score predictor which predicts the most likely quant and verbal score based on the number of questions answered correctly
(3)The interface is truly terrific with a pacer (allowing specific comparisons with all the users who have answered the question)
(4)All the questions are accompanied with video explanations
While the course could be great, the lack of structure costs it big. The website needs a defined course to help students learn the proper material. It also depends far too heavily on outside material (OG Guide, Manhattan Prep, etc.)
Overall, the lack of study guidance coupled with the courses poor structure led me to this review. I invested hours upon hours of studying into this course with no improvement to my score. Even though the price is so low, one would still expect some amount of a score increase.
I would strongly recommend a more robust course for those seeking a moderate score improvement.
